Replying To Pericles:  "Some serious fool giving a thumbs down to every post here...

Andy always made a difference. I'm looking forward to seeing him going into coaching... if he gets the chance to pass on a fraction of what he has to a new generation they won't need luck to get them over the line. Enjoy your family time Andy!"
Who could they be i wonder....

Solid player. Lead by example. Perhaps even under-utilised this summer. His vision and organisations skills will be badly missed by Mayo next year.

A great career, Mayo will struggle to replace him as he still is their best forward.
Best of luck to him.

What a warrior and what he contributed to Mayo on an off the pitch is beyond measure. I think of all the big days out for Mayo over his time, the excitement, the joy the hope, immeasurable.

Not only that to the game in general, he was marquee player, he lit up so many big games and provided so much entertainment.

A real testament to dedication, self improvement, commitment and what a player he became over his career appexing in Player of the year.

As a neutral, id just like to say i enjoyed Andy's career very much and his attitude and way he went about developing himself and the game, thanks for contribution to many a big day.

No stone unturned on behalf Mayo either self development or behind the scenes. A career to be admired and proud off.

Delighted he goes out with a nation title in his last year.

All the very best Andy.

Tremendous player. Good forwards are hard to come by, he will not be easily replaced.

Owes football nothing.

One the best footballers not to win an All Ireland.

...and would you say a lot of players retire owing a lot to the GAA?

He was a class player but seriously one of the best there was? I could name 10 players off the very top of my head that were better - and at least 3 of those would be Mayo men before I get told Im bias!

Replying To Aibrean:  "You do have a point. However, in comparing full-forwards I do think that scoring record is a good starting point (excuse pun). And here there is simply no comparison: Cillian has scored 25-298 versus Andy's 11-102, as far as I can ascertain. Of course, Cillian had the added advantage of being the main free taker."
Ah yeah, I think O'Connor is a great player but there's more to it than scoring and Moran didn't always play in the forward line either.

They're different types of players imo.

Because he ran around a pitch during an FBD game giving fans of all ages the fingers. He was a smashing footballer dont get me wrong but he wasnt the unbelievable guy on and off the pitch most folk on here are saying he was. What he did in Kiltoom that day was a disgrace and pathetic. Many a footballer done a hell of a lot worse and got a bad reputation in the national media. Andy got away as if he was a saint, and mind you Andy was about 34 when he done this not a young 18 year old.

He got a few boo but he is not the first that has got a few boos and most dont react like thugs. And it actually wasnt even that bad compared to the booing he got in Croker a few months later. I dont agree with booing by the way anyone who boo's a player when he gets the ball or is hitting a free is a loser in my eyes
