Well said @Whammo. A lot of the funding the likes of MacKenna go nuts about is based on one key thing - getting kids playing our games. It's what the GAA is all about.

I do think the GAA should do more to help weaker counties, maybe something like puting structures in place similar to the brilliant job the DCB have done in the past 20 years. But that's nothing to do with funding for Dublin, just in the spirit of competition it's something I'd like to see.

We're grown up alright. And you're right in many respects we are clowns. We shouldn't participate in any competition with Dublin until finances are divided equally and unfair advantages are taken away.

Let's spell it out for you again Avonlie.

1. Massive unfair government funding.
2. Regereeing bias as evidenced by lack of cards, officiating in favour of Dublin.
3. Provincial population.
4. So many home games.

Why dont you respond to Whammos post? You keep going on about this funding. I'm curious where you and others got your information. Not doubting you but Whammos figures can be seen.

None the wiser. A piece of paper with numbers on it with no context behind it or even where it came from? Somebody questioned what are they basing the funding on but he didn't have that information. Why is it so difficult to get that information?

From the above article:

There is a caveat in that the wages of coaches in the capital are paid by the Dublin County Board, but by the relevant provincial council where every other county is concerned.


So, the €1.64m that the Leinster Council receives for games development, for example, is then distributed among the other 11 counties in the province, excluding Dublin.

But at an average of just less than €150,000 each, it still falls well short of Dublin's funding.

Games development

Many of the smaller counties (Leitrim, Longford, Monaghan, etc) received just €39,000, although GAA director general Páraic Duffy was quick to point out that this was not comparing like with like, highlighting the fact Dublin employs its own coaching and games administrators, while in all other counties they are employed by the province.

Other counties in Leinster, for example, would have their games development paid from the province allocation of €1.63 million; yet Duffy agreed there was still something of a discrepancy.

"This is not a new issue, and has come up for the last number of years," he said. "Dublin has employed a huge number of coaches the last number of years. Of course we are trying to get the balance right, but it will take time. But we also cannot expect to treat Dublin the same as we would very other county, given the population.

"We are trying to address that, but I would say the investment in Dublin has been very successful, in terms of participation, especially at club level."

These threads just annoy me so much.

These guys don't care about equality either. Everything was just fine until they stopped winning things or because they now see fewer exciting championship games.

They would want less children from Dublin to have access to good quality coaching and exposure to our games.

10s of thousands of kids, some in some of most socio-benefit from this project every year. Some of these kids come from some of the most socio-economically deprived areas in the country. They are out playing Gaelic games and avoiding god knows what other harmful pursuits.

The mentality that can find the negative in that actually makes me incredibly angry.

Ah come on Lilylanger. When Cork receives 1/16th of Dublin's funding straight away you know something is up.

Plus Bertie Ahern's 5 million euro in the noughties.

You can't justify that funding for a one county team out of 1.4mil population.
