Fermoy through to Cork PIFC quarter-finals after objection upheld

Fermoy have been awarded a 0-22 to 2-15 victory over Ballinora in the Cork Premier intermediate football championship after their objection to last Saturday’s Group 3 Round 3 clash was upheld at Tuesday night’s hearing.

The game had originally finished level at 0-21 to 2-15 in Glenville, but the result was thrown into doubt after a scoring error by referee Wayne King was identified.

Fermoy’s Ben Twomey scored a point in the 30th minute before adding a two-point score moments later. The additional score was not recorded, leaving Fermoy’s tally understated.

Once the scoring error was verified, Fermoy’s total was corrected to 0-22, giving them a one-point victory over last year’s IAFC champions.

The result puts Fermoy into the quarter-finals, where they will face Rockchapel while Macroom will meet Naomh Aban in the other quarter-final.

Ballinora have the right to appeal the ruling.
