Donegal star Michael Murphy featured for the Tir Chonaill men yesterday for the first time since last July’s All-Ireland SFC final defeat to Kerry.

Yesterday’s Allianz Football League clash against the Kingdom saw Murphy coming off the bench in the 52nd minute and getting on the scoresheet late on as the Ulster champions recorded a 1-22 to 1-18 win in Ballyshannon to maintain their 100% start in Division 1.

Speaking to media after the game, Donegal boss Jim McGuinness "it wasn't a difficult conversation" to convince the 36-year-old to return for another season.

"He had a surgery after the final and we've been trying to manage him and build him up from that," he is quoted saying by BBC Sport NI.

"It's been a long enough road since that. He didn't manage to play for his club in the club championship, and he's been building up, so it's great to have him back on the pitch.

"He was looking forward to that today, to get some type of a run out, and hopefully we can build his minutes in the in the weeks and months ahead."
