Glenullin (Derry) will play An Ghaeltacht (Kerry) in the All-Ireland club intermediate football championship final at Croke Park on Sunday week, January 11th after both sides advanced in their respective semi-finals this afternoon.

Goals were key in Ballyshannon as Glenullin saw off Roscommon counterparts Strokestown by 5-8 to 2-8 to book their Croker date.

Ryan McNicholl’s early goal looked to set the tone for the Ulster champions before Strokestown battled back, goaling through Diarmuid McGann, as the scoreboard read 1-4 apiece at half-time.

The second-half saw McNicholl finding the net again, and while Shane McGinley pulled one back in the 43rd minute for the Connacht winners, it’d be green flags from Willie John Bradley and Joe McNicholl down the home stretch which saw Glenullin progress to the decider next weekend.

At SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, An Ghaeltacht edged Sallins of Kildare by 0-18 to 1-14 after extra time to leave themselves 60 minutes away from All-Ireland intermediate glory.

There was no shortage of drama at the Cork venue as Éanna Ó Conchúir’s two-point free in the 82nd minute saw the Munster champions snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and break Sallins hearts in the process.

A thrilling encounter saw An Ghaeltacht with their noses in front at the end of the first-half in normal time (0-9 to 0-8) before stretching their lead out to four in the third quarter.

Stephen Kelly’s goal in the 52nd minute came at the perfect time for the Leinster champions and they’d draw it level through Luke Killian prior to the Kerry men going ahead again and James Dalton forcing extra time, with the scoreboard reading 0-15 to 1-12 come the full-time whistle.

The scores of Dalton and Luke Kelly helped to put Sallins within touching distance as time ticked away in the added periods, but Ó Conchúir made no mistake with his free from beyond the arc at the death after the ball had been advanced 50 metres.
