Louth’s preparations for yesterday’s All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-final against Donegal were hampered by their late arrival in Ballybofey.

The Leinster champions arrived at MacCumhaill Park just 45 minutes before throw-in after their team bus took a wrong turn en route from Enniskillen where they stayed on Saturday night. Instead of travelling towards Donegal, the bus went west towards Sligo, resulting in a journey of two hours and 20 minutes.

Louth eventually reached their destination at 3.15pm and the game went ahead at 4pm as scheduled. The Wee County recovered from a slow start to draw level at 0-6 apiece before the hosts took complete control in the second half to run out emphatic 2-22 to 0-12 winners.

"A human error in our navigation," quipped manager Ger Brennan after his side's memorable season came to a disappointing end.
