Killoe power past Abbeylara into Longford SFC final

Killoe Emmet Óg secured their place in the Longford senior football championship final with a commanding victory over Abbeylara on Saturday

The defending champions produced a ruthless second-half display to run out 1-21 to 0-12 winners at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park and keep their hopes of retaining the county title firmly on track.

Killoe laid the foundations for victory in the opening half, taking a 0-14 to 0-7 lead in at the interval. Their ability to score from distance was crucial, with five two-pointers contributing significantly to their advantage.

Davin Donnelly accounted for three of those long-range scores, while Mickey Quinn added two as the holders established a seven-point cushion.

Quinn then delivered the decisive blow six minutes into the restart when he found the net to stretch Killoe’s advantage and put them firmly in control.

Abbeylara struggled to respond as Killoe continued to pile on the pressure, adding a further seven points to complete an impressive 1-21 to 0-12 victory.

The result sees the reigning champions return to the Longford SFC decider, where they’ll bid for a record equalling 16th Sean Connolly Cup success against either Clonguish or Dromard who meet at 4.15pm today.
