Stephen Molumphy has been confirmed as Waterford’s new senior hurling manager on a three-year term.

The 42-year-old from Ballyduff Upper succeeds Peter Queally in the role following the latter’s decision to step down in June after two years in charge of the Deise men.

Queally, who is set to be ratified at the next county board meeting, captained Waterford to its last Munster SHC title in 2010 and went on to work with Davy Fitzgerald as they landed the Leinster SHC crown in 2019 before taking over Kerry’s hurlers.

A statement from Waterford GAA read: "Waterford GAA is delighted to announce Stephen Molumphy as its proposed new Senior Hurling Manager.

"The appointment for a three year term was agreed at a meeting of Coiste Bainisti this evening and will be recommended for ratification at the next meeting of Waterford County Board.

"Waterford GAA extend our best wishes to Stephen and wish him every success in the role."
