Aidan O'Shea, Tommy Conroy and Paddy Durcan will miss Mayo's Allianz Football League opener against Dublin at Croke Park on January 25.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday to promote Mayo’s charity match against Monaghan in Castlebar on Saturday, January 4 in aid of the Mayo Motor Neurone Association, Kevin McStay confirmed that the glamour tie will come too soon for O'Shea and Conroy who recently underwent minor procedures, while captain Durcan is continuing his recovery from the ACL injury he suffered against Cavan last summer.

"A few lads needed to get a few little things cleared up and they took the opportunity to do so," the Mayo manager explained.

“Paddy Durcan is in the distance but he’s progressing really well. In an overall sense, we’re happy where he’s at. He’s a super, super athlete, he applies himself particularly well to what the rehab programme is. So we’re expecting to see him . . . certainly before the league is out.

“Aidan had booked holidays and we thought it would be a good time. He had a little tidy-up procedure, it’s fine and we’ll see him now in the early rounds of the league. Tommy – we won’t see him in round one or two, he has a bit more work to do, but I’d be very hopeful to see him before the league is out.”
