Tipperary’s senior footballers will be without manager Philly Ryan this weekend as they get set to open their Tailteann Cup campaign against Sligo.

Ryan underwent hip surgery last week and, as a result, will not be able to make the trip to Markievicz Park as Tipp look to make a winning start against the Yeats men on Sunday.

Speaking to TippFm Sport, Ryan said that’ll be difficult not being on the sidelines with his team this weekend.

“Sunday will be difficult, I’ll be on edge hoping that everything goes well,” he started. “I’m involved in the plans from the start to the finish and I’ll be joining yourselves (on Tipp FM) I hope for the game because I don’t have any other stream to watch it on.

“I’d say I will probably be pacing with two crutches around the kitchen and kicking every ball and going through every move.

“So yeah, it will be strange for me but it will be enjoyable and I have no doubt that there’s a good team in place that will look after the lads.”
