McInerney hits 0-16 to steer Éire Óg past Rathgormack into Munster club SFC semis

Éire Óg Ennis moved into the semi-finals of the Munster club senior football championship thanks to a 0-20 to 1-13 win against Rathgormack at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg this afternoon.

The Clare champions got out to an early 0-5 to 0-3 lead against their Waterford counterparts prior to the visitors pulling back another point and then hitting the front with a Stephen Curry goal in the 15th minute.

Éire Óg got back ahead with a hat-trick of Mark McInerney points and the same player would take his tally up to 0-11 in the first-half as his side carried in a 0-12 to 1-6 advantage at the break.

Rathgormack got back within a point four minutes into the resumption and moved ahead again with a two-pointer from Jason Curry, but the hosts got level through Luke Pyne before outscoring their opponents by 0-6 to 0-2 in the closing quarter.

McInerney and Dean Ryan sailed over scores prior to former finding his range once more in the closing stages, as he finished with a personal tally of 0-16 to help seal the four-point win for Éire Óg which now sees them up against either Clonmel Commercials (Tipperary) or St Finbarr’s (Cork) in the semi-finals of the southern province in two weeks’ time.
