Fair enough, I misunderstood what you were saying.

Could be, maybe throw Diarmuid O'Leary in for him and move Damien Reck to centre-back

Could have Éamon Wickham in there instead of Conor Hearne maybe

Replying To Viking66:  "Agree to disagree Doyler! Having been doing gym work on and off since the mid 80s, and having attended/observed sprint sessions with top lads like Kevin Cogley and Eoin Devine O'Grady, and having done the GAA F3 Athletic Development course, as far as Ive seen you can't make someone, who isnt naturally very strong, very strong without making them more injury prone, as in you can get them to bulk up but their ligaments, tendons and joints might not be able for the extra power, unless they start this gymwork while they are still growing.
Likewise you can improve someone's speed and acceleration by teaching them proper techniques and body positions for different stages of running, for example alot of players don't even know which foot they take off quicker on, but you arent going to make a greyhound out of a tortoise.
And linking the 2 together, if you have lads that are fast bulking up in the gym you might make them slower.
So in conclusion you might make a good hurler stronger and faster but you run multiple risks and likely won't make him as strong or fast or athletic (as in movement, "step" etc) as someone who is naturally that way. Unless you start early, around u12/u14.
I agree most top technical hurlers are usually that way because they start early, but Lee Chin is proof that if you have a naturally good sportsman, (athletic, good hand/eye coordination etc) that lad can become a very good hurler if he puts the hours in.
Having seen a video of Tony Kelly when he was 12 I think the really top lads are hurling since very young, naturally athletic, and get good coaching and S and C programmes all the way up to help them develop further.
And most important of all is the mental side. I listened to a long interview with Mogie a while ago and what really came across was his inner drive. This has also struck me talking to great former and current players and coaches, and is definitely true of successful people in all other walks of life, not just hurling.
Just being naturally talented and technically good at hurling, and naturally athletic, isnt enough by itself."
We're into a different category altogether now. We're on to genetics and the fact that gym work is less important than nutrition.

I agree about mogies interview. That's the best I've heard in a very long time and his attitude was amazing.

I'd agree with this and he was a good hurler back then, he improved massively from 2013 to 2014 even…I don't think in 2014 however we were as reliant on him as we are today.

I'll have to watch it back to see motm. I can't find that online anywhere.

The point remains the same. There's absolutely nothing to stop Cian Byrne reaching that level. Or Simon Roche for that matter."

He got 4 as did Mac, the opening point he got is one of the best scores I've ever seen a Wexford player score in Croke Park

Think midfield is Wickhams best position

You talking about Mac's one in front of the Hogan? On the back of having just won the minor that was Dreamland

Genetics and nutrition are the components of natural size, as opposed to strength buit up in the gym. There's not much any county can do about genetics, and very little they can do about nutrition in age groups below u14.

Think we could see him at wing forward either. I think the below will be our starting options coming into start of championship presuming Jippo, Mac, and ROC arent back

1.Fanning
2. Niall Murphy/ David Clarke
3. Simon Donohoe ( Think management will go for him here given his experience)
4. Darragh Carley/Shane Reck
5. Conor Foley/ Richie Lawlor/ Eoin Whelan
6. Damien Reck
7. Cian Molloy/ Eamon Wickham
8. Conor Hearne
9. David Codd / Eamon Wickham / CBD /Sean Rowley/ Richie Lawlor
10. Jacko
11. Chin
12. Eamon Wickham/ James Byrne / CBD / Darren Codd
13. Cian Byrne / Simon Roche / Tucker Kinsella
14. Jack Redmond
15 Kevin Foley

2 Wexford lads started Fitzgibbon for UCD this afternoon, at 3 and 11. 2 more came on. Lost pretty badly, hit a good few of wides.

Oh to be back in 2019! The county was on a high . Everyone in the county was behind the team and fully believed we were good enough to win the All Ireland.

Simon Roche and Eoin Ryan Viking? Any other Wexford panel members featuring in college hurling this week

Cillian Byrne and Darragh Kehoe will be options if both come back fully fit by February.

I think it could be Darragh Carley and Shane Reck as the two corner-backs, think Eoin Whelan is the full-back in time but think they'll have him wing-back this year, leaves you with Conor Foley, Simon Donohoe, Niall Murphy, and Philip Dempsey for full-back (Could maybe put Cian Molloy there either)

Would rather Damien on the wing and Cian Molloy at 6, think Championship this year might come a year or two too soon for Wickham (Similar for Whelan).

Would rather Chin on the wing, we have others who can play #11 but not many who can play on the wing, I like the idea of overloading the other side and leaving Chin isolated one-on-one against their wing-back. Think Tucker Kinsella is better in the half-forward line too but is best as an impact sub rather than as a starter

I feel like Simon will be a starter, would guess that provided they're both fit, him and David Codd will be the two to make their starting Championship debuts this year, think Rowley might come on as a sub but probably a year or two too soon for him to start

Think we're better off with a sweeper too, would strengthen up our spine, would make us play a running game (Which we should be doing given the age profile of our team), and would force us to play good ball into the corners to miss the opposition's spare man

Yes. The 2 who came on were Justin Moran and Cian O'tuama. Don't think they are on the panel this year, but not sure. Luke Murphy came on for DCU, Rowley wouldve started midfield if he wasn't injured. Luke Codd and Padraig Jones likely to be starting for Waterford. Maynooth didnt make the QFs.
