Almost all the Senior clubs have peaks and troughs at underage. Currently Barntown and Oulart are doing really well, Shels before them, Martins before them. And the other thing to note is not many u19s at Senior clubs are playing Senior. All the Senior intercounty players from Senior clubs are playing Senior club. Totally agree, we also should have a Wexford hurling man over the team, Galway scored 4 06 from play and Wexford scored only 2 points, luck for us the weather was terrible or Galway would of ran up a serious tally on the score board, even with the weather they tried to play hurling and run the ball at every chance to create scores, Wexfords game plan seemed to be based on statistics and rucks, this negative play will not put scores on the board and Galway had big men to win the contact game, The big negative from this management structure is that they will not produce hurlers for the senior squad We have the hurlers in this county, just look at the match programme: Rossiter Dunne O'Connor from oulart, hyland from rapps, Mernagh from martins, Mooney from rathnure (Cooney from Glynn dropped from panel), all serious stick men, who can create scores and score but with not produce positive ruck counts for the seemly important statistics, they all will play senior for their clubs this year and hopefully play senior for Wexford in the future, just let the boys play hurling please, can I ask a simple question? Why have we got a Dublin football coach over a Wexford hurling team bigladforage (Wexford) - Posts: 11 - 06/04/2026 09:31:03 2664947 Link 1 |

I didn't see u20, but my lads said it was over as a contest by halftime. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1588 - 06/04/2026 12:40:49 2664963 Link 1 |

Our schools are shocking just look at the results of St Peter this year and Good Counsel beaten by 20 something points by St Kierans so thats an u19 competion so i cant see how we could compete with them as i dont know of any stand out 20 year old in the county. On a positive note im hopeful the Minors will do well but all depends if best players are picked.

I just think we are picking too many players from division 3 and 4 clubs and yes you can get a gem from those divisions but too many starting in my opinion. Barntown and Oulart players are playing at a way higher standard than most of lads being picked week after week but always seemed be struggling to make these teams. Wexford hurling is in big trouble if things dont change. I hope they listen to Paul Kinnerk and act. Also a few lovely hurler playing for Gusserane and Bannow ( O Rahillys) last year in Premier Minor hurling championship but very few getting on these teams. Easy look good in division 3 or 4 hurling if ur a good player. Just imagine a good 18 year old marking a 15 year old its a lot easier look good with that advantage than marking an 18 year old.

Hardly over as a contest at halftime when we were only 2 points down at the 3/4 mark?

Schools were way behind Kierans this year. Including Kilkenny CBS. Kierans won the Croke Cup pretty handy. Our schools were poor for sure, they need to improve in a big way. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 19062 - 06/04/2026 17:16:13 2664989 Link 0 |

Using the qualification of being good enough to start club adult at Senior, before being considered good enough for an intercounty u20 team- Sean Denton (didnt join the u20 panel) Kian O'Connor (currently injured) Charlie Mooney (didnt come on.......?????) Did I miss anyone? Compare that to Kilkenny and Galways teams. They had over 10 lads between them good enough to be on their Senior intercounty panels, some will be starting against us in Championship. Almost all of their players on their panels have played club adult, many at Senior. And I know this requires speculation, but how many lads who are currently u19 do we have in the county who would have been good enough to start Senior club adult last season if the new rules had of been in place? Now that we have got rid of the bad rule that 18 year olds can't play club adult things should get better. But we still need more players who are physically able to hurl at club adult before considering them for Senior Intercounty, and obviously Senior club adult would be better again. No-one got close to Kieran's in Leinster Senior A though, that wasn't just a Wexford thing, even Kilkenny CBS got nowhere near them in the Leinster Final

Just on the Senior club thing as regards lads who are potentially good enough for our u20s, is a lad who is playing adult club for a Senior second team in Intermediate A or Junior getting any better experience than a lad who is playing 1st team in the same grade for a less fashionable club? Some of the lads who hurled premier minor for Senior clubs arent even shining for their clubs second teams at adult when they are 19. Some only hurled Premier minor because their club had bigger numbers up to the age and therefore had a better minor team.

Sean O'Brien is a gem!! Looking at programme from the u20 match Saturday and just picking a team for discussion, based on the top hurlers for their clubs each summer, since rackard league Quigley bannow Furlong alley Roark ferns (has to be fullback) Donohoe rapps Ormonde shels Doyle Annes Mooney rathnure Dunne oulart Hyland rapps Mernagh martins O'Connor oulart Carley Glynn Rossiter oulart O'Brien cushenstown Nolan oilgate (playmaker 3rd man midfield) Elard ladies island (return to panel) O'Toole Liam mellows Browne harriers Ryan Glynn Moore oulart Kisov alley Reilly rathnure Doyle davidstown Cooney Glynn (return to panel) Serious team of stick men with very simple Game plan, just f… ruck counts, get ball into a serious set of physical skilful forwards, Nolan playmaker with Rossiter and O'Brien forming lethal inside forwards, and just play hurling like Keith Rossiter's senior boys bigladforage (Wexford) - Posts: 11 - 06/04/2026 19:42:49 2665007 Link 0 |
