No need to get so defensive every time someone questions the board.

Hard luck to the Gaels but their age profile is actually good. They need to build a panel to get over the line imo. Well done to Ctg for all the skill they have they work as hard as any team.

Great game today in difficult conditions. CTG half back line were immense. 5 of CTGs starting forwards scored and Jack Gallagher scored when brought on. Conor Murphy worked hard and gave a real team performance. LLg not at the races today bar joggers threat on highballs he was well marshalled today. Pitch wasn't great but what do people expect this time of year.

An excellent performance by CTG I thought Jack Murphy really stood out at the back for cleaning up ball hes been a vital addition to them since his transfer from carlow. LLG had no other plan except trying to go route 1 to jogger and daly they missed their chance the first day as everyone had said. They will be fired up to play ballacolla

It was a good game yesterday, played in tough conditions. It was always going to be a big ask for LLG if they couldn't keep CTG from hitting the net while trying to grab a few goals themselves. In the end, a nine-point win is a solid margin, and fair play to CTG - they kept pushing right to the end even when the game looked safe. Their forwards really stood up, while the LLG lads up front found it harder going, with only two of them getting on the scoresheet. Like I said last year at Senior level you need physical size to maintain presence in the tackle. It seemed to me that LLG were strong in the tackles, breakdowns in the first half but didn't win as many of those in the second. Pure power is essential in this conditions and circumstances.

A few people mentioned the pitch and the timing of the game, and in my opinion they've got a point. It's not that the County Board can control the weather or that the standard drops, but more that club hurling is where players are born, coached, and brought along to county level. Those players deserve a fair crack at playing their biggest games in good summer conditions.

With the split season, it feels a bit rough on clubs that end up playing their championship so late in the year. There's no easy fix, but it's worth another round of thinking about. And you'd wonder too if this setup really helps bring more players and supporters through from club to county keeping that connection alive is so important. The next few years will be interesting to see now we have an internal county manager who knows the home scene better that most based on his experiences, his ability to get buy in will tell an interesting story.

At the end of the day, the journey matters just as much as the result.

With the current state of Westmeath hurling you would think Castletown could go on to do a few more in a row.
Raharney and Clonkill have dropped massively in standard in the last couple of years
The gaels have slightly improved but not enough to really challenge when Castletown perform. It'd be more of a case of them catching a bad performance from Castletown while playing out of their skins. Have the gaels anything coming to add to what they have? Is Williams brother eligible next year?
Have raharney or Clonkill anything coming to bridge the gap

I can agree that raharney and clonkill are a bit of the pace regarding championship but that doesn't last forever. Things change fairly rapidly with teams CTG are kingpins for now, every team gets a time to shine and they've to win as much as they can while on top. LLg worthy finalists the last three years but they've yet to get over the line maybe new thinking out there might get them a shoot, route one only gets you so far. Plunketts have a serious minor outfit this year, big physical players and skilful their issue is how many of them make the step up to senior, with so many other distractions from football and rugby. It's trying to get the likes of pollard back to being more competitive at senior level. The more competitive the greater the standard for all teams competing. Daltons have stayed up this year now can they push on and consolidate in senior A and win a few matches.

Its interesting the question about the current state of Westmeath hurling.Without a doubt Clonkill and Raharney have gone back and we must remember the massive contribution both clubs have made to the county team over the past 20 years.Sadly Castlepollard are in a phase of serious decline.
The Gaels have stepped up a lot while Father Daltons are every year a little more competitive.
Castletown are excellent a mixture of skill and physicality and youth and experience.
So overall senior A has slipped a lot.
However i think there has been a big improvment in the standards at Senior B and Intermediate both of which gave us excellent finals in 2025.
Plunketts, Castlepollard, Brownstown and Turin have some high quality players to come through over the next few years.
I think we have grounds for optimism in the medium term and maybe being in 2A in 2026 might be a blessing in disguise. It will be very important that we maintain a base of experienced players next year to blend in the younger players.

I can't imagine he's eligible if he was playing in the U16 county final, plus Clonkill are in both the minor and U20 finals, so they'll be fine. They might need to rebuild a bit, but personally I don't see Raharney going anywhere anytime soon - they've plenty of county players and are always competitive underage, so saying they've dropped massively is a bit of an overstatement.

I wouldn't be so optimistic about Raharney, they have the likes of the 2 Grevilles, Joey and Cormac Boyle with arguably their best days behind them, David Hickey is emigrating, will John Shaw stay on after two average years by the club's high standards, they are in under 20 final and a win there would be a needed boost

How many managers have they had within the past 4 to 5 years?

Raharney will always have great tradition & wont be far away. The have a good bunch of lads from 16-20 & they will form the backbone of their team for the next 10+ years. Theres no doubt that CTG are well on top at the moment & they should be dominating for the next 5-6 years at least. Clonkill are re-building but they are very strong at underage & while they might not win a senior championship for a few years I think they will dominate after CTG for a few years. LLG have a few serious young lads coming through with Piarsaigh so they should eventually pick up a championship or 2 over the next few years. I still cannot see any other than these 4 teams winning a senior in the next 10 years.

A real Sunday game night of the final job.Gaels beat Raharney a point in the semi final but get 6 all stars to 1 and not 1 between them for Clonkill,Father Dalton's and Castlepollard. I hope you aren't on Kevin O Briens team

Maybe give your own opinion on Team of the year. Its only one persons opinion to generate a bit of conversation. Nothing to be gained by targeting the poster in fairness. Id imagine Raharney probably do deserve a mention, but who comes out?

Who would you have on it from Pollard? Name the player he missed? Likewise Fr. Dalton's? Clonkill's best player of an average bunch was Peadar Scally but he was sent off twice so hardly team of the year material.
