Oh I agree it will certainly help improve the standard, but it's a real possibility that a Kilkenny club will win the Carlow Minor Championship. I can't remember ever seeing it happen for County Championship level. "Couldn't Kilkenny just let these clubs transfer into Carlow and be done with it? We could do with a few more teams." Would be great for hurling in Carlow, but I can't see that happening, I doubt the clubs would want that anyway, I'd be happy with a Good Friday Agreement-esque rule, where players from clubs competing in the Carlow Minor Championship have the option to declare for either Carlow or Kilkenny. Surprised there's no posts on the hurling semis yesterday. The Town played out of their skins. Great game. Could have been an enormous shock. Hard to see Rangers not winning it now. Given the extra rest. Very disappointing crowds. I counted fewer than 100 in the stand before the first game. There seems to be a general apathy in Carlow. Sadly. Cracking game between BT and SM, although I feel BT have missed their opportunity to reach a final. SM really got to grips with them in the 2nd half and I feel that will continue into the replay. Disappointed with KB, thought they would at least run MLR close given who they were missing, but MLR seem to just find space so easily around midfield and are able to pop scores over from there. Their half back line were dominant, which is what BK will be most disappointed with I Feel. Real possibility now that next season we could see Burren Rangers, KC, Naomh Brid (assume they drop back having pulled out of SHC this season) and Carlow Town (could still go up, but hard to see past SM) all playing Intermediate next season. Feel it's important to have 3/4 first teams at the level each season, means you could actually have relegation out of SHC and consistently have 6 teams up there. Would be great if Pal could get going again and start coaching hurling at underage. This would bring the number of hurling clubs up to 10. But it's wishful thinking. I'd like to know what the aim for Setanta is at this stage. Is there any plan to bring forward teams to enter individual Minor teams and eventually a Junior side or is it to continue to feed CTHC? Setanta seems to have been a vanity/reactionary project. Would be hard to see it surviving long term. But when it comes to young kids, the more hurling options the better. So there's no harm in them keeping going. As for Palatine, their carry on is hard to stomach. They gutted Carlow Town, once upon a time (especially a junior level, but it affected senior too), because they wanted everyone under the Pal roof. Now they don't bother even to field in hurling. Seems like it was just a cynical move to end distractions for their football teams. Agree a good IHC would be beneficial, but it won't mean proper promotion and relegation to senior. Unless Myshall drop down, perish the thought. Because Brid and CTHC are miles off. Let alone Kildavin and Burren. It's really sad that Leighlin parish has no senior or intermediate hurling this year. Wonder though will St Mullins be as poor the next day... Stylers goal from the 20m line was a great and well deserved score to level it and if they had converted a few of their 2nd half chances they would be in the final. No issue with Setanta operating as is, as you said, whatever gets kids out playing hurling can only be a good. I'd just like to know is the plan to stay as is, feeding players into CTHC or are genuine attempts starting to be made to bring forward the current crop of u12's and u14's through to u16, Minor, u21 and eventually Junior. Fully agreed on Pal. They reformed a team without any plan or systems in place on how it was going to be sustained and operated into the future, coming at a cost to CTHC. I think breaking up NB at adult level should certainly be looked at. If Ballinabranna and OL/LB feel they will get the buy in from those within the clubs, then it's probably worth going for. Hurling semi final was a great game yesterday, but marred by a very strange refereeing decision. Bagenalstown were five down with a few minutes to go and scored 1-2 to level up. They were attacking strong, but the match was suddenly blown up, without playing any injury time. I thought that was supposed to no longer happen? The town were exhausted and only scored a point in extra time and Mullins won handy enough in the end. Carlow Town losing to Mt Leinster's second team last week means we have the same two clubs in both the senior and intermediate finals. Hardly a healthy situation. Not wanting to burst anyone's bubble but the chances of SETU having a football team to compete on Carlow championship is very remote. Why does it work with UCC in Cork and UCD in Dublin? It's definitely not the worst suggestion I've ever heard. Has the rule changed though? I think years ago you could play for your college in championship and also your Club in your home county. Well done to Burden rangers on there win yesterday. After a lot of near misses and heartbreak great to see them win and appear to have ambitions to eventually make it to senior level. Hopefully they continue to grow and one day make it to senior level. Makes intermediate interesting next year with potentially 4 first teams in it dependant on level naomh brid want to play at. Well done to both teams today, giving us a very entertaining game. Both team's will feel they can improve for the replay. Especially on their finishing. On another note, it's very frustrating how badly run we are at the top. Especially when it comes to hurling. - 20 Euro entrance fee - Couldn't get the score board right. - And worst of all. Fixing the replay for next Sunday. Imagine asking St Mullins to go again in 7 day's after their gruelling 3 weeks.
