Oh I agree it will certainly help improve the standard, but it's a real possibility that a Kilkenny club will win the Carlow Minor Championship. I can't remember ever seeing it happen for County Championship level. "Couldn't Kilkenny just let these clubs transfer into Carlow and be done with it? We could do with a few more teams." Would be great for hurling in Carlow, but I can't see that happening, I doubt the clubs would want that anyway, I'd be happy with a Good Friday Agreement-esque rule, where players from clubs competing in the Carlow Minor Championship have the option to declare for either Carlow or Kilkenny. Good idea to include KK teams to improve standard. ITSCHOLAR (Carlow) - Posts: 302 - 24/07/2024 10:28:38 2561147 Link 0 |
Hi lads, I'm a big programme collector but seem to have misplaced 2 from my collection. Probably a long shot but any other Carlow collectors here have the Carlow SFC Finals from 1999 & 2000? Or know someone who would have?? fergie (Carlow) - Posts: 1116 - 27/07/2024 08:05:22 2561885 Link 0 |
Surprised there's no posts on the hurling semis yesterday. The Town played out of their skins. Great game. Could have been an enormous shock. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 727 - 28/07/2024 13:00:28 2562112 Link 0 |
Cracking game between BT and SM, although I feel BT have missed their opportunity to reach a final. SM really got to grips with them in the 2nd half and I feel that will continue into the replay. TaosHum (Carlow) - Posts: 250 - 29/07/2024 08:20:39 2562431 Link 0 |
Setanta seems to have been a vanity/reactionary project. Would be hard to see it surviving long term. But when it comes to young kids, the more hurling options the better. So there's no harm in them keeping going. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 727 - 29/07/2024 10:22:43 2562490 Link 0 |
The Gaels certainly played their best hurling on Saturday against St Mullins. Wonder though will St Mullins be as poor the next day... Stylers goal from the 20m line was a great and well deserved score to level it and if they had converted a few of their 2nd half chances they would be in the final. They obvious took a bashing from their own after some of their performances earlier in the championship where they were very below their own standards. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1849 - 29/07/2024 10:57:42 2562510 Link 0 |
No issue with Setanta operating as is, as you said, whatever gets kids out playing hurling can only be a good. I'd just like to know is the plan to stay as is, feeding players into CTHC or are genuine attempts starting to be made to bring forward the current crop of u12's and u14's through to u16, Minor, u21 and eventually Junior. Fully agreed on Pal. They reformed a team without any plan or systems in place on how it was going to be sustained and operated into the future, coming at a cost to CTHC. I think breaking up NB at adult level should certainly be looked at. If Ballinabranna and OL/LB feel they will get the buy in from those within the clubs, then it's probably worth going for. I know it's still early, but Kildavin, to their credit have shown its possible to break away and operate a competitive IHC side. TaosHum (Carlow) - Posts: 250 - 29/07/2024 13:42:37 2562615 Link 1 |
An idea might be to create an 'area team' made up of players from IHC and JHC clubs to play in the SHC. Call it Dolmen Rangers or whatever. Would add an extra senior team and give everyone a chance to play at that level. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 727 - 29/07/2024 15:20:20 2562681 Link 0 |
One idea to help standard of senior championships (I think both would greatly benefit from it) is to have SETU enter teams. Does anyone know has this ever been mooted?

I think there's a fear that SETU could run away with them every year.

Football. I know but Carlow IT definitely played in the SFL for a while. They were division 2 as I recall. Going back 20 years here. Didn't play championship though. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1430 - 02/08/2024 14:25:22 2563590 Link 0 |
Hurling semi final was a great game yesterday, but marred by a very strange refereeing decision. Bagenalstown were five down with a few minutes to go and scored 1-2 to level up. They were attacking strong, but the match was suddenly blown up, without playing any injury time. I thought that was supposed to no longer happen? Any word on the football manager? I suppose Mickey Harte is still free, he would jump at the chance …. Bainisteoir (National) - Posts: 561 - 08/08/2024 08:49:56 2564216 Link 0 |
There's more chance of it being Mickey Joe Harte than Mickey Harte.

Not wanting to burst anyone's bubble but the chances of SETU having a football team to compete on Carlow championship is very remote. They have their own championship in the Sigerson and they go back to their clubs when this is finished.

Why does it work with UCC in Cork and UCD in Dublin? It's definitely not the worst suggestion I've ever heard. MLR (Carlow) - Posts: 77 - 10/08/2024 15:27:40 2564539 Link 0 |
UCD haven't played in the Dublin championship for a long time

Well done to Burden rangers on there win yesterday. After a lot of near misses and heartbreak great to see them win and appear to have ambitions to eventually make it to senior level. ITSCHOLAR (Carlow) - Posts: 302 - 11/08/2024 11:08:20 2564580 Link 0 |
Well done to both teams today, giving us a very entertaining game. Skippy2 (Carlow) - Posts: 69 - 11/08/2024 17:28:37 2564617 Link 0 |
