It seems like the extended panel members named will actually be guaranteed starters for championship. Which in some cases is just as concerning. A shocking result against Kilkenny, just shocking. And like you say, just a terrible week all round for Carlow football"
Is this the only competition we are in for minor this year? I mean is our first team in "a" cgampuonship?

Replying To CARPS:  "Carlow drew with Kilkenny in that minor match.

So we just spent a number of years - with Colts and Foals etc - trying to bring through a group which draws against a side cobbled together by a county where football is an afterthought.

Surely, at this point there has to be some questions about the structures and the level of coaching?"
Absolutely. That's an absolutely shocking result. I can't actually understand it. That Kilkenny minor team entered our U-16 regional championship last year and didn't win any of their 5 matches. They lost to all four of our regional teams and they also lost to our county U-15 team. So how on earth can they go from not being able to beat or draw with any regional teams, or our county team a year younger than them, but yet with a few months of training can now draw with the county minors !!

How many are on the total extended panel? Did they play the extended panel guys today who probably won't feature in the championship matches and thereby rest the strongest starting 15 players?

We play both Wexford and Wicklow in a few weeks time. As in recent years the three of us are deliberately kept apart from the rest of Leinster in the draw as a type of development group but it is the A championship with top two making quarter finals. For the rest of Leinster group winners make the semi. Today was a separate shield competition for the same teams but with Kilkenny added. Kilkenny are not in the A championship matches.

35 in total on the panel. That would appear to be the case in a few instances. I honestly can't make rhyme not reason of it anymore.

Replying To carlo:  "We all had heard that things weren't good but after getting to the end of the league I thought Curran would at least see out the Championship & TC. He finished with 2 good wins. However he should never have been appointed in the first place. That's on the county board who showed no ambition at all but no surprises there. Will be very hard to get someone before Meath game & it will just be a stop gap. Who will want to take over a team who are facing a hiding from Meath in their own backyard. Another year wasted."
Is there a possibility he is in talks about a coaching role elsewhere, just a thought.

Replying To Onion Breath:  "Unfortunately you are correct. I went into that game and it was a poor standard match but Kerry were way better in every facet. Fair play for the effort and commitment but that Carlow team was very disappointing. So many lads who couldn't drive the ball more then 45 metres and couldn't perform the basics like lifting the ball. So many times also they went on runs and instead of letting it go they'd run into traffic and lost it before receiving any contact even. Looking at them they'd have been much better off entering all Ireland B championship and staying out of Leinster A this year at least."
Quite a disappointing day with Kerry superior in most facets.
Kerry were physically stronger by a lot and performed the basic skills far better.
Hard to know what the solution is... this was supposed to be a good team and many were looking forward to a very successful year but today was a real kick in the bum.
It's not that the players did not try their best either.
They did try- but some were blown out of it - could not reach the Kerry keeper with shots from 40m out !!!
Dispiriting is putting it mildly!

Can't say us drawing with Kilkenny in football surprises me tbh.

Spent some time looking back at last ten years under 20 / 21 and minor football championship and from what I got my hands on I noted 1 win in ten years at under 20 v louth in 2018 and minors have had 3 wins and a draw. I am open to correction on the above but even for a county like ours this is a shocking statistic.

understand you get good crops and bad crops but this seems to reflect we are only producing bad crops.

Even more surprising is I know most clubs operate and promote under age from very young and alot of volunteers put a lot of time and effort into players who are good players and capable of more.

Is it when they get to county scene that it's falling apart or just don't have the hunger for it. we seem to have fallen 10 years behind every other county and if we keep going the way we are then results like yesterday against Kilkenny will be seen as good and not bad as this is the standard of our underage football at the minute.

Why is the question??"
Just look at the panel… managements decision to force players hands back fired on them…. No reason chaps at 20s level couldn't manage dual! Dropping lads for playing with Kieran's college?? Like where are we going we should be celebrating lads like that

So are the county board going to announce a new manager or are they going to just surprise us next Sunday?

I'm not sure there's anybody who'd be willing to step in at this stage. It might be an idea to let the players take on the responsibility - strength in adversity & all that. O'Hanrahans won a county title in early 00's with no manager in place, & Dublin won an All Ireland with Tony Hanahoe as player manager, so it can be done

Sincerely hope it's true.

And please no more outside managers for Carlow footballers.

This has to stop.

Really frustrated with this, Our Senior Hurlers are constantly punching above their weight and are prepared so well, then you have the group (u20) that should be feeding into this not being prepared correctly. There was no ambition with the appointment of the management, it was just convenient for the co board to appoint them. For some of our stronger u20 hurlers not to be allowed play with the county is just disgraceful given the limited numbers we have. Are the county board blind to all of this??
