Was at the Connacht Minor final as a mutual there. Amazing performance by Glenacr Manorhamilton Minors. Unfortunately they were narrowly beaten but showed how good leitrim football can be. Where do you even start? Sheridan made an early mistake but by god it didn't affect him one bit his kickouts were second to none and pulled of 2 superb saves to keep them within touching distance of oranmore. The full back line were top class, Hughes pocketed 14 and small boylan with 2 key blocks. Luke farrell and gilligan were very good again kept tight with a very good half forward line. Mcbride in midfield did very well against a strong midfield. The 2 Kelly's were superb as per usual and young attard and fox were outstanding with shooting and catching. The basic skills of Manor were very good. Oranmore just looked more physically stronger and taller. But Manor should be proud of themselves.

Magnificent post. This kind of insight and analysis is exactly what this forum has been missing. Wish him all the best in his journey.

Bombshell news!!!! Darragh Rooney has left the county panel!! This is a massive loss as we have already lost soldiers such as Aiden Flynn, Peirce Dolan, Mark Plunkett, Dipper and brothers Conor and Jordan Reynolds.

We as a county need to think of possible replacements to help battle this famine. My additions to the set up would be as follows:

Gavin Reynolds: Big, long and tall. Exactly what we need!
Shane Finn: A little birdie told me he is already called up.
Donal Wrynne: His experience could be crucial.
Squidgy: About time he is called up. Warra player.
Conor Guckian: Stick him full forward. He will do your heart good to watch.
Harkin Twins: strong, fast and agile. Will be good competition for Shane Foleys son.
Cian singleton: Intelligent and reads game well. Could Be a good addition in corner back.

Replying To Leitrim007:  "Went over to COE last night as neutral after manors big win last week and I was not disappointed. The best coached underage team I have seen bar none, they had a super first half that had them well up at half time and may not as been as impressive in the second half, but beating last years Connacht finalists by 8 points is some going. Standout players for me, Sheridan in goals 2 super saves when he was needed, Gilligan at wing back cleaned up everything and carried the ball forward excellently, Farrell at 6 glued everything together, MCbride was excellent and covered every blade of grass, fox kicked 4 points and was very impressive in the air also and finally jack Kelly as accurate as every. This is a real positive from leitrim football and hopefully as many leitrim supporters can get over to support them Friday night. Also worthwhile noting is that Gilligan and fox are still underage for Leitrim u17 next year and should be two of the stars.

Heard about the team holiday over there last night, I don't think anyone could begrudge players of going on an Ireland team holiday after training continuously for the last 11/12 months. Also worth noting manor were beat by 20+ points last year my clonberne who went on to win the all Ireland for third year in a row, aswell as that the word is Leah fox didn't play in quarter final as she got surgery for knee issue that was carried with Leitrim for the whole year. Let the girls go away and enjoy their holiday that they richly deserve and come back refreshed for next season."
Hard luck to Glencar/Manorhamilton minors, a supremely talented bunch of lads who represented Leitrim with distinction! Huge credit to management of Glancy and co, it's not easy to keep this particular age group together and interested in football with other distractions there is at this age. No doubt they have their eyes on U20 and even more over the coming years.

I heard the ladies team are missing a few of their county players for the Connacht semi final today. Not sure if I can blame the players for deciding to go to New York. My only question is why did the county board not flag this as the Connacht LGFA fixture plan is set way in advance. At the end of the day Glencar/Manorhamilton are representing Leitrim so surly the county board had to sanction this trip or if not get involved in some way. Seems to be a serious lack of forward planning here and from what I remember the senior county final had to be played in Cloone as a replay in the men's final was not even considered, even the league final still has yet to be played! (FYI Connacht ladies master fixture plan for 2025 is up already)

While McGloin had good contributions off the bench I don't know is it really a county level standard. Granted he is good enough for u20 I'll say that.
But can you really tell me that bringing in 2/3 players from clubs in junior or competing in junior will bring a competitiveness to the county set up. Not discriminating on the little clubs but I just dont think some of those players are at that level. I understand inclusion of every club is important but we have to be realists here and ask how many of those players would contribute greatly to the county?"
You said a lot didn't start for their clubs but of the 90 plus players mentioned you could only name 2!!!. Absolutely no harm in giving all them players a chance if they willing to give it a try. Some of the best players meath and cork ever had only ever played their club football at junior level. Some players can excel when put with other good players but may not show as well when playing at club leavel

Glencar minors had little left in the tank come the 2nd half. Three games in 7 days is too much for a group of U17s. Oranmore are highly rated and only playing two games in three days greatly helped in winning last night.

It is spelt level*

And the junior standard in Leitrim is not exactly at the same level of that in meath and cork during the time period you are referring to. Theres a reason the club championship scene has been changed as the standard in the likes of junior has not been good enough. I have previously mentioned how the likes of aughavas and aughnasheelin coming down to junior A will make it more competitive but as it stands the majority of junior players are not near that level.

I went to a lot of the junior championship games this year and quite simply the quality is poor. I have seen men more interested in fighting than looking for the ball, defenders forgetting what their first role is and even some thinking they are soccer players with step overs and kicky uppees in the middle of the pitch.
So I really don't think that many junior players are going to 'excel when put with other good players'. Instead they will probably be showed up for what they are...average

I thought junior this year has been of a great standard. . I've been at quite a few junior matches this year and I've seen no such thing. Since you like to complain so much perhaps you should dust the cobwebs from the boots and go back playing next year and then the standard may improve.

I don't see how naming players is knowing alot about a team. As you can see I know very little first names. You must know very little if a name is alot of information to you!!

Marysman I think the legs are well and truly past that stage but I do appreciate your belief in me to turn things around. I'm more excited for the young talents of todays GAA.
Kelly, Cox, Guckian, O'Reilly and of course Barry McNulty are the real talents who will bring Leitrim football up that extra level.

So you've named 2 out of 50-60. Well done. And do you know why those two weren't starters for their clubs? Injuries, work, other commitments etc? Seriously, lad. Take a look at yourself before you wade in with your lazy criticisms about another contributor making a very decent effort to enlighten us. None of us are perfect.

Perhaps I should rescind my comment about a lot of the aforementioned players not being starters I suppose it was an over-exaggeration.
Iron sleeve thank you. You have helped me find the light and have placed me on a better path but at the same time...
You seem to talk as if you know everything about football and never criticise anyone yourself. For this to come from the same man who not so long ago tried to take cheap shots at Annaduff and Melvin Gaels for their constant cynicism. Personally I don't think that was too accurate of a statement as from what I see in the Observer and match reports a team like Annaduff nearly never seem to receive any black cards or such.
But hey what do I know I guess you were just trying to showcase another fine example of 'lazy criticism'.
