Replying To Leitrim1234: "Now that the dust has settled with the Andy Moran/Mickey Graham appointment and quitting debacle (where nobody comes out looking good).
I have to say I'm fairly optimistic about Steven Poachers appointment. Anyone that has been at his coaching days or seen his online coaching content will tell you he's a deep thinker of the game, extremely tactically aware and very organised. He also seemed to be the driving force behind Carlow when they picked up some momentum a few years back.
He also seems to have picked a good array of coaches to support him. I've spoken to a few people in Donegal in the last few days about McGrath who will be the main coach and they rave about him. The word also is that Ryan Jones may being involved may signal that him and his brothers will be transferring to Leitrim Gaels and potentially one of them could line out for Leitrim as things with them in Fermanagh seemingly has got messy.
It is fair to say Carlow were incredibly defensive but with the new rules all teams will have to have an attacking game plan and therefore being set up well at the back will be an advantage if done right. In my eyes Darragh Rooney, Ryan O'Rourke, Keith Beirne and Jordan Reynolds and a few more could thrive with the new rules and space that they will have. I think a lot of people also forget we got promoted without Keith Beirne, Jordan Reynolds and Cillian McGloin which is impressive for such a small county.
We might struggle without Pearce Dolan, Mark Plunkett and Donal Wrynn around the middle third but from what I seen in the Club Championship Barry McNulty, Paul Keaney, Ben Guckian and Radek Oberwan have the potential to really step up in 2025. Hopefully the new management will also develop a few more of the U20s from last year. Young McNamara really looks like a prospect in the full back line.
Is there any more word on other player who will not be committing for 2025?
I'm not sure if it was the right move not having Barry McWeeney involved with the senior team (I'm uneasy with their being no Leitrim coaches) but he should have a right amount of experience after the last few years to take charge of a very promising group of U20s. Hopefully he brings in another young Leitrim coach or two with him and then the likes of James Mannion or an outside coach to assist him.
It also hard to understand how James Glancy is not involved with any Leitrim teams when you see how well his Glencar Manor Minors are doing along with how well the Roscommon Gaels team he coached did in the Championship. The county board need to settle their differences with him." You're right to be optimistic about Poacher. He was 100% the driving force behind Carlows success. We were defensive in most games because we had to be. That was the best way for us to compete and hence we played to our strengths. Having said that, we still knocked up some massive scores and people are quick to forget that.
Under Poacher, we beat Kildare in the Leinster SFC for the first time in over 50+ years and scored 2-14 to their 1-10. We also hammered Louth another year in the Leinster SFC - 2-17 to 12 points and look where Louth are now.
I think it's a great appointment and wish you all the best.

Went over to COE last night as neutral after manors big win last week and I was not disappointed. The best coached underage team I have seen bar none, they had a super first half that had them well up at half time and may not as been as impressive in the second half, but beating last years Connacht finalists by 8 points is some going. Standout players for me, Sheridan in goals 2 super saves when he was needed, Gilligan at wing back cleaned up everything and carried the ball forward excellently, Farrell at 6 glued everything together, MCbride was excellent and covered every blade of grass, fox kicked 4 points and was very impressive in the air also and finally jack Kelly as accurate as every. This is a real positive from leitrim football and hopefully as many leitrim supporters can get over to support them Friday night. Also worthwhile noting is that Gilligan and fox are still underage for Leitrim u17 next year and should be two of the stars.
Heard about the team holiday over there last night, I don't think anyone could begrudge players of going on an Ireland team holiday after training continuously for the last 11/12 months. Also worth noting manor were beat by 20+ points last year my clonberne who went on to win the all Ireland for third year in a row, aswell as that the word is Leah fox didn't play in quarter final as she got surgery for knee issue that was carried with Leitrim for the whole year. Let the girls go away and enjoy their holiday that they richly deserve and come back refreshed for next season.

I believe Andy Moran pulled a great stroke in jumping ship and getting Leitrim promoted (the luckiest promotion ive ever witnessed) and that promotion will cover a lot of the mistakes Andy made along the way.
And if I said what I really think about Mickey Graham I'd be banned!! I hope he enjoys his 12 months in Galway. He is no loss.
Poacher has a lot of experience coaching, he is extremely tight with his backroom team, listening to their podcast they talk a lot of sense and they are obsessed with football.
I agree with Leitrim1234 I'd have liked a Leitrim man on the backroom but Ryan Jones will provide that continuity.
2025 will be a tough year for Leitrim in division 3 and if we could stay up it would be huge. It would bring the project on 2/3 years straight away.
In my opinion the league is the only show in town next year and if we could stay in division 3 it would be huge boost for Leitrim football.

Condolences to family of PJ Carroll. He lifted us up by the bootstraps and gave us many great days . Unlucky to come up against a decent Rossie team year in and year out, but he set the foundations for 94 success. May he rest in peace

The great PJ Carroll has sadly passed away, done a lot of ground work for 94 with the All ireland B in 1990 and Connacht Under 21 in 1991 and promotion in the National league. Unfortunately Roscommon were our bogey team in the championship in those years and there was no back door them times. Came back and won a senior championship with Aughavas in 2000. Rest In Peace PJ.

Replying To Dodgy_Pass: "Given the new management, here are some players across the U20/Senior grade I think they should bring in, have a few in house games like the recent interpros similar to what Andy did at the beginning of his term. Some are current co players, some are not. Definitely one or two in every club to look at. Some should be co players but haven't shown the interest and likely won't. Some would be co players and younger players would have to out perform decent club players in the trial games to be considered. Would be a worthwhile exercise to identify late developing talent outside the traditional County Squad Structure. Bearing in mind collective training doesn't start til December, of course.

PJ Carroll got Leitrim to their heights, John O'Mahoney just put the icing on the cake with the connacht win. Open to correction but no other managers have gotten us anywhere bar Div4 runners up and FBD cup titles. RIP to both men. Staying up in Div3 is crucial followed by a decent showing in the Tailteann cup

J Barnes for Marys and J McGloin of Melvin Gaels were used as subs for the majority of the season with their respective clubs. While McGloin had good contributions off the bench I don't know is it really a county level standard. Granted he is good enough for u20 I'll say that. But can you really tell me that bringing in 2/3 players from clubs in junior or competing in junior will bring a competitiveness to the county set up. Not discriminating on the little clubs but I just dont think some of those players are at that level. I understand inclusion of every club is important but we have to be realists here and ask how many of those players would contribute greatly to the county?
