The best team in Roscommons history(1944) couldn't beat Sligo in their first championship game of the year even though they were the reigning AI champions.

They beat them in the replay though and went on to beat Kerry in the All Ireland Final. Sligo had a good team then. Both draw and replay were played in Boyle.

From.a roscommon point of view its all about Sligo next Saturday and given the status of both teams its hard to see anything other than a Roscommon victory by at least 6-9 pts. In 2015 Roscommon were only after getting promoted to Div 1 for the first time in ages and Sligo had still a string seasoned spine to their team. Even in 2016 in Hyde Park, Sligo really pushed Ross to the pin of their collar and a few big moments went roscommons way that day. 1981 was arguably the biggest shock result. Next week were it to happen would be equally as big.

It will be a trip to salthill last Sunday in May for the primrose and blue.

Disappointing result for Ross minors Friday evening but all not lost yet. A similar thing happened 4 seasons ago amd Galway and Ross ended up in Connacht final which Galway won by 6pts.

Congrats to Sligo u20s on their title and nobody would begrudge it to them given the tragic events of the past few weeks in Sligo. They won't fear Dublin or Kildare in a semi eitjer which will probably be in Breffni Park as a neutral venue.

It's a tough game Saturday. We had a good league campaign but that's over now and in championship football anything can happen . Was it 2015 we were division 2 champions and went to Markievicz Park park and lost to sligo by 4 points I think. Also in 2010 we were relegated to division 4 and we beat Sligo as massive underdogs after they beat Galway and mayo. Markievicz park is a tough place to go . We need to be at our best Saturday evening to win this game.

If you manage to overcome Sligo. Only Louth won out of the highest ranked League teams this weekend as Mayo, Armagh, Laois, Offaly and Antrim all lost.

Roscommon will win if they are focused and prepared right for the game however if even a fraction of the mindsets of some posters here is filtered to the players minds a shock is possible.

Remember anything can happen in a game of football. The weather may be poor, Sligo could play the low block to frustrate Roscommon and blacks or reds could be shipped out. Only this year Roscommon drew 9 each with Clare and if Clare and Sligo was to play next weekend there wouldn't be a whole pile between them.

Full focus needs to be on Sligo and nothing else. Better Roscommon teams than our current one has traveled to Markievicz Park and went home with their tails between their legs.

A good point on blacks or reds above. This year we had a number of games where we lost all momentum once we no longer had 15 on the field. It could easily have cost us promotion.

Sligo have good forwards in Carrabine, O Connor, Hughes, Towey and Murphy so we'll need to be well organised defensively, be disciplined in the tackle and get match ups right.

I'm expecting Sligo to be improved in midfield from the New York game, two of their best midfielders was played wing half back and the other introduced late on that game.

Our forwards will need to be well drilled and as accurate as possible. Sligo will likely play with plenty of bodies back and tackle in groups so we'll have to be patient and chose or shot selection wisely.

Clare would beat Sligo by 7 or 8 but ild agree with everything else.

Surely Roscommon v Sligo will be televised this weekend, a provincial semi-final?

Would agree with all that but i would love to see conor daly come in at full back if richard hughes was out and brian stack go to wing or centre back?

You are living up to your name. Best of luck Saturday hopefully its a right good game now that a connacht semi final has been snubbed by all broadcasters

I really don't see stack being moved. If Conor is going well in training and Hughes is still out we could see an all Daly half back line. Hard to know. Hopefully heads are right going into this game and everyone is fully focused on Sligo. Sligo have some very good forwards that can do damage.

Total humbug of a game really for both counties. A rout of Sligo, which is going to be the outcome is no good to us or them. Leitrim, despite their so/so league are the best team by far in D4, and have 2 class players and a potential All star in Keith. They can test the Galway back line at least for 50 minutes but are likely to fold in the end. I expect Cunningham will play an FBD selection and not risk injury which is the big danger in these non-event match ups. Surely now that the shield championship is in place for lower tiers counties should be seeded for provincial championships in 2023.

To be fair, only Offaly was a real upset. The other teams were reasonably the same level - being in either the same division or will be in the same division next year.

This is a division 1 team vs a team that struggled in division 4.

Hopefully work has been done on defensive structure/tackling and kick outs since the league final. It looks like Galway definitely got their defense well organised since then. The break in games was probably badly needed for Faithleach's and Pearses players as well. That final was weeks ago now and we can't take Sligo for granted. Best of luck to the team and management tomorrow.
