It's amazing how managers like Sean Boylan, Micko, and Brian Cody had such success without resorting to these silly contraptions. In professional sport the likes of Pep, Klopp etc don't see the need. Yet practically every Mickey Mouse GAA manager is wired up even at club level. They look ridiculous and its a silly attempt to look smart when often they can't get the basics right. Sorry for the rant but I'd love to send them to Room 101.

Haha, think you're right, it's almost as if they're there for show, like an accessory,

I also think managers would get a far better handle on the game if they were up in the top stand. You see patterns of play - like a huge high speed chessboard. It's genuinely fascinating. Down at pitch level, it's just a blur of elbows and knees; you can see individual plays, but the bigger picture is lost.

Totally agree with OP. Like, who the f**k are they talking to? What are they saying and to whom are they saying it? If they are not talking to the players....who the F**k are they talking to??

Don't know why other counties use them, but Dublin team use them to tell the ref what decisions to make! ;)

And many other professional sports managers do use them. very handy to have to get data from management team who are up in stand and have different viewpoint, assessing trends from the live data mining of the game

I remember being at a club game in a few years ago and being aware of a faint humming overhead. The home team had a drone! I couldn't help but wonder what kind of data a review of drone footage would yield.
If Stephen Cluxton can spot runners and identify if the opposition is pressing up, going man to man, or zonal surely all this technology is redundant.

Exactly KillingFields. Teams might have a selector viewing the game from the back of the stand alongside stats people. The information and the opinions from that particular vantage point would then be communicated either to the manager or another member of the management team at pitchside.

I've heard of drones being used. I've also heard of and seen cameras recording the game from a heighth behind the goals. It isn't done exclusively for keepers. It is a different view of the game and may be used in post match analysis particularly from the point of view of kickouts and/or defensive and attacking shape. You can be absolutely sure that Stephen Cluxton and the Dublin backroom team analysed his kickouts.

Think it was kieran Donaghhy who said during a Dublin match he was presentijg Dublin had a team of 3 people doing video analysis of the first half and feeding that info to the team at half time. It's ridiculous how complex teams are making the game. A county team must have a lot of "volunteers"

Many counties have teams of analysts
tipp hurlers have had several analysts for a few years now
That isnt making the game very complex. its natural. you use the best of whats available to you at the time.

So why aren't they used by managers at top professional soccer clubs? . English Premier League clubs spare nothing in using the latest technology to enhance there chances , and the players and coaching staff are among the highest paid in the world. Yet, I've never seen a manager use them.

Premiership clubs invest significant money in analysis. They are using technology. They have members of their backroom team mixed up to members of their management teams. Every field sport is using technology. Do you not see the rugby management teams sitting in front of laptops.

Big Sam used to on a regular basis, ironically he got stung by someone else being wired up when he was England manager.

They have others in their management team doing it and they're all using statistics a lot.
Stat Sports who have an office based in Limerick work with loads of the pro soccer clubs.
