Loughrea will face Turloughmore in the Galway SHC semi-finals after staging a stirring second half comeback to edge out Clarinbridge by 1-18 to 2-14 in a dramatic quarter-final yesterday.
Despite playing against the wind in the second half, the holders came from seven points down with 20 minutes to go to snatch victory courtesy of Tiernan Killeen’s injury-time free which brought his tally to 0-12 for the afternoon.
Anthony Burns’ second half goal also proved decisive as the champions fought back from the concession of two Aaron Niland goals in the opening half.
In yesterday’s other quarter-final, Victor Manso’s late goal handed St Thomas’ a 1-18 to 0-19 win and they will now face Craughwell in a semi-final double-header at Pearse Stadium on Saturday night week. In Saturday’s quarter-finals, Craughwell needed extra-time to overcome Sarsfields 2-24 to 3-19, while Turloughmore eased past Oranmore-Maree on a 5-16 to 0-21 scoreline.
