Relief was the overriding emotion for Jack O’Connor after Kerry finally registered a home victory in this year’s Allianz League at the expense of All-Ireland champions Armagh.
The Kingdom romped to a 10-point victory in Tralee on Saturday night to gain a measure of revenge for last year’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final and to keep themselves in contention for a place in the Allianz League final ahead of next weekend’s final round against Galway.
“We don’t know how significant this win is until we see how the games tomorrow go, but it was important to try and win tonight, because it wouldn’t look good now on anyone’s CV to lose three games in-a-row at home,” the Kerry manager told reporters.
“Even though we’d two great wins on the road, and we’ve been competitive in every game. We gave away a twelve-point lead here against Dublin. We played a lot of good football, particularly, in the first half of that game.
“It has been a tough league. I said at the start that it would be awfully hard to get points and it has proved to be that.”
Kerry could be without Diarmuid O’Connor for the Galway game after he sustained a shoulder injury in the closing stages.
