Jack Flynn Conor McGill Ben Wyer Diarmuid Moriarty Thomas O'Reilly Shane McEntee Bryan Menton All players who weren't part of Meaths plans last year and in some cases both years under O'Rourke who are all worth a look at again, with current form in mind and if they want to play for Meath again. Meath aren't in a position to be discarding players who are 29/30/31. We are very light on defenders based on 2024 squad. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 998 - 27/08/2024 15:11:41 2567168 Link 0 |
I'll give you Jack Flynn definitely. While I'm not disputing those other lads could make the meath panel I don't see any of them improving the starting 15 and I include Menton and McGill in that who were absolutely top class for Meath.

Some I'd agree, some I'm not sure. Jack Flynn is a good player with a big presence but believe he stepped away this year because of studies so potentially back next year. Is McGill carrying injuries? Hasn't really featured in the championship so far so not sure if it's injuries or form. Ben Wyer been in the squad but hasn't broken into the team, don't know if he's at the level. Moriarty started the year strongly in OBC & Sigerson and don't know why he wasn't kept in the squad, would like to see him back. ToR has been very hot and cold for Meath but wouldn't be against seeing him back in the fold. Shane McEntee is pushing 30. Menton would always be a welcome addition but think family/work commitments might keep him away from it now that he's out. LowerHogan (Meath) - Posts: 45 - 27/08/2024 15:36:21 2567173 Link 0 |
Not much being said about Bernard Flynn as a contender. Wasn't he supposedly well in contention two years ago with a strong coaching ticket? men_of_49 (Meath) - Posts: 2003 - 27/08/2024 17:24:05 2567187 Link 0 |
Didn't he have a shot with the under 20s and it ended badly.

Bernard Flynn would possibly be on the ticket with Robbie Brennan This should be an easy decision Robbie is the stand out candidate His record stand up against anyone outside the big name It's a lot harder to win a club all Ireland then a minor all Ireland Throw in 3 Leinsters Managing big name top county players He would bring any number of top coaches in This to me is a no brainer Awaywin (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 27/08/2024 19:45:36 2567206 Link 1 |
Ah jaysus lads. He manages the biggest, best and richest club in the country. He's not leaving that gig to coach the bloody Meath u20s! Crokes u20 team would probably beat them most years, never mind their second team.

Can I ask the question, would people be totally against Rory Gallagher. I think it's what this crop of players need. Unitedroyal (Meath) - Posts: 11 - 27/08/2024 21:17:46 2567224 Link 0 |
Cathal O'Bric ratified as under 20 manager so unlikely he'll be the next senior manager. Also announced is that the minor manager from this year will be the manager again next year. I don't want to constantly bash the decision making of the county board, and they've done a couple of good things recently, getting our rights sold to clubber for example. But the minors this year was a complete disaster. And we won 4 Leinster 17's in 5 years by having managers take teams right from under 13 all the way up. Why have we stopped doing this? Next years minors are doing pretty well in their Ted Webb and Gerry Reilly competitions, why is that current under 16 team not carrying on to minor last year. Under 17 seemed like the one thing we were starting to get right on a consistent basis and now we are completely changing our process, it worked terribly last year and we've decided to double down on it with the same manager this year. Seems very strange LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 27/08/2024 21:25:09 2567225 Link 0 |
Cathal O'bric ratified as 20s manager. There goes the best option for the seniors vacancy. County board gets it wrong once again. Unbelievable. Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 184 - 27/08/2024 21:25:20 2567226 Link 0 |
I personally wouldn't have an issue but would probably bring heat we could do without. Maybe on a coaching ticket as opposed to the main man.

Correct appointment at this moment in time. He will end up being manager when this 2 or 3 year block of 20s are senior, no need to panic and rush him in now. Let him continue his great work at that level, his time will come.

Problem was noone on his coaching ticket knew about it.

Not really a club in the true sense, players from all over Ireland

I don't think they've gotten that wrong, CoB has been excellent for the underage teams and it's important for the future of Meath football that he keeps developing our younger players, a senior manager in the future no doubt but not right now.

BF would be on his Meath backroom team. For RB, it would also be a good stepping stone for the job he wants. Think he will get the Meath job, and then the other job, down the line. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4051 - 28/08/2024 08:44:52 2567272 Link 0 |
Should definitely be going for him but wont ever happen unfortunately

O'Bric could still be a candidate, or a candidate for a backroom team, but the ratification last night means at the very least he's still under 20s manager. MeathAbroad (Meath) - Posts: 101 - 28/08/2024 09:13:41 2567278 Link 0 |
First Off. Rory Gallagher under no circumstances. That's not the type of person our kids or the women of this county should see on a side line. End of. Rickoshay (Meath) - Posts: 33 - 28/08/2024 09:19:18 2567280 Link 0 |
Clearly Cathal wanted that to happen. He doesn't want the Senior job. And he is not the best option. And also I don't see how Bernard Flynn should be mentioned for a Senior inter county job. It has to be Robbie Brennan for me and I'm not saying he should get it but Kevin Reilly would bring a level of professionalism to the set up. I think both of those men would build a good backroom team around them.
