Very best of luck to our minors when they take on Kildare in Stamullen on Wednesday night. Kildare always a good marker of where a team is underage. Hopefully we have another good minor team coming through LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 25/03/2024 21:45:42 2533761 Link 1 |
We certainly don't have a good minor team. Maestro (Meath) - Posts: 584 - 27/03/2024 20:55:48 2534184 Link 0 |

Let's hope it was first game nerves but that appeared to be very poorly organised team, its along time since ive seen a team that just simply kicked the ball away every time they got it, they did it so often i taught it was the early 80's again, shot selection was atrocious aswell, lets hope lessons were learnt and that we can pick up at least one win over louth or westmeath and get to the preliminary quarter finals.

Firstly hard luck to lads, very tough considering how much work they have put in. Meathooooo (Meath) - Posts: 94 - 28/03/2024 07:49:16 2534221 Link 0 |
Lads these players are 15/16 years old. Kids. Please take it easy on the criticism. TakeYourPoints6 (Meath) - Posts: 230 - 28/03/2024 08:58:15 2534231 Link 3 |
Your lack of comments about the actual game would indicate you weren't at it. Yes it was a poor performance but Kildare have been extremely competitive at this level in recent years and are likely one of the favourites for the All ireland. Also home venue is irrelevant, playing at home at this level is hardly like playing in the San Siro, doesn't give you much advantage other than some familiarity and slightly less travel time. jetser (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 28/03/2024 09:34:06 2534239 Link 1 |
In fairness no one has criticised the players I'm sure the talent is there, the criricism is for the management last night there was no system of play what so ever which is unforgivable at this level.

A good crowd on a bitter night and credit to St Pat's who had everything well organised. Obviously a very disappointing display and nobody will be more annoyed than the players and management. I'll preface my comments by saying Kildare looked really excellent, big, well coached, able to take on their man and score, and had really good forward play. A bit like our minor teams of 2020 and '21. Roger (Meath) - Posts: 479 - 28/03/2024 10:14:01 2534248 Link 3 |
Give over will ye. All that was said was that it was a poor performance which it was and I'm sure the players are aware it was. Nobody slating the players or singling out and individual players for stick or questioning their commitment which I'm sure is superb or their ability because I'm sure they are all good players. The only criticism at all was directed towards the management because the team looked poorly organised and devoid of ideas. Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1012 - 28/03/2024 11:41:30 2534269 Link 0 |
The ball was dropped with this group a little as there were a load of different coaches over them at 14 and 15, and the manager last year for the Gerry Reilly, a good man, almost ended up there by default. No issue with Joe Cowley being brought in and last year's man was asked to stay involved but moved to the 20s. Everything looks more organised behind it with Kenny Morgan over the 16s and Trevor Giles as U15 manager. Roger (Meath) - Posts: 479 - 28/03/2024 13:22:46 2534295 Link 0 |
Well said ! personally, I don't believe we should be posting about the performances of non- adult teams.

Could someone, if they have time, explain how player development is structured in Meath at the moment? And what, if anything, could be done different or better? MeathAbroad (Meath) - Posts: 101 - 28/03/2024 13:41:27 2534301 Link 0 |
Utter nonsense. The discussion so far has been very respectful and mindful of the fact that we are discussing an underage team. No player being mentioned or singled out for criticism nobody slating the team. All that's being pointed out is that was a poor performance on the night. No issue with that IMO the team will know this themselves and will be keen to make it right the next day. There is definitely a line when it comes to talking about and criticism of underage teams but nobody so far on here has come anywhere near it .

He is goalkeeping coach again this year and filled the same role last year with John Mac's crew.

Get over your self There is nobody critical of players And stop being dramatic. Awaywin (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 29/03/2024 00:48:54 2534403 Link 0 |
Certainly not going to be critical of the players involved, they are only children after all. I would however question the wisdom of the county board who have structures in place with regards the academy where from under 14 a group of coaches look after a team and then are discarded for a new management team for minor after working with players for 3 years. Having been at the game the other night, I could not tell you what way the team were supposed to be playing. The players looked very poorly prepared and the set up had to take responsibility for this. Is it normal that from last years Gerry Reilly final there were so many changes? longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 330 - 29/03/2024 12:03:38 2534442 Link 0 |
Wishing the lads the best of luck tonight. Last week wasn't the best outing but hoping that's first games nerves and hoping we get past louth similarly to last years minor game putting the nail in the coffin with that Ben Corkery penalty. Excited to Pat Crawley again tonight he was one of the stand out players in the game last week. Hoping for a 3+ point win with the right attitude we are the far superior team TheRoyalTribesman (Meath) - Posts: 7 - 03/04/2024 12:04:35 2535354 Link 1 |
