Meath V Cork

Looking forward to the challenge that this brings as Cork look like they are improving. We have won our last two league games against them, last year in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and a couple of years ago comfortably in Navan.

We are heading into the game wanting to win whereas Cork will feel they have to win.
Cork will be more motivated going in here.

While I want to win this match I wouldn't mind too much if COR tried a few things out, we can now start to think of championship.

Quick question for Cork people. Saw highlights of some of recent Cork games, why are Cork not wearing red jerseys (they are wearing a mainly black jersey)?

Seems to be more of a league trend with teams these days, wearing their alternate colours to try and push jersey sales. It's nothing more than marketing, would expect them to revert back to Red this weekend.

It's part of a commercial deal with O'Neills I believe. Unfortunately, we are going to see more of this in the future..

Folks,

Any thoughts on the team for the weekend. Personally, I can't see there being too many changes from the team that started against Cavan. I know some people are saying with us safe in D2 COR could try a few things out but I think he is trying to build a consistency of selection and to develop experience that way!

I think some of our key men haven't being playing at their best - so game time should benefit! I think Ronan Jones is a key man for us and would love to see his form get back to where he can be! Our backs, who most people seemed concerned about at the start of the league have been good - and our forwards while doing okay probably haven't clicked as a unit yet! McGowan, Costello and Frayne have had really good spells so it would be great to see the unit really click and get a few goals!!

Well it would seem management were not happy with Jones performance - Cathal Hickey comes into midfield as the sole change to the team! Hickey is a really good player although I would have him on the wing in either of the half lines. I still think Jones has a lot to offer and I would expect him back in the starting line up for the championship!

Cork will be hungry for a result and I think it could be a good game! I hope our lads have their heads in the right place!! Momentum is really important at this time!!

The article accompanying the team announcement states Meath are boosted by the return of injured players to the match day squad. Who are these injured players? Looks like the same bench they have had all throughout the league. If anything they appear to be down a player through injury with Ronan Jones not in the 26.

I also found this confusing. I think it's Jason Scully and Harry O'Higgins even though Jason Scully was on the bench against Kildare. Was expecting to see maybe Jordy Morris or Ronan Ryan after reading the headline. Conor Gray probably further away

Is Jones injured - doesn't say that in the article.

Heard a couple of the longer term injury guys are back in with the squad and training a bit - Wallace and Morris two I heard mentioned but the rumour mill usually gets these things wrong!

Lord Jaysus. Where do you start with that loss? All this talk of Meath having the bottle to finish games strong is out the window after that. A 7 point swing in the last10 mins...against Cork. Pathetic.
'Ah but sure they're only young lads'...

Yeah that's disappointing. Speaks to something that doesn't really want you to invest in the team too much.

That is a very worrying way to lose a game. In the palm of the hands and somehow let it go without even a sniff of a fight.

Sloppy ,and dont know why the complacency could be tolerated..,,, What were they doing in the last 2 weeks? Not good enough to surrender 7 points at a stage when confidence building is critical. A lot better expected ,and hard to understand why a wake up call is appropriate ,but that is the case.

Actually today's excuse from Colm is the lads are tired. From what I ask??. Sigerson is well over. When we got on top we kicked the ball long. But once we got in front we went back to the silly cross field passing. Great that Brennan got 3 points but he can't pick a player out with a kick out over distance. Just like in Cavan, once cork pushed up on our kick out our midfield limitations came back to the fore. Can't understand why Moriarity doesn't get more game time. No point bringing him on with 2 minutes to go. That's twice he has done that. He actually looked very good when he came on in Armagh on a bad night for Meath football.

Bit of a flat feel to that game today, poor crowd and the first 20 minutes was as poor a game of football as you could see.
Cork pressed our kick out for the last quarter and made hay. We were so weak in the middle and missed Jones hugely.
Cork were bringing in fresh legs all the way through the second half and got a strong return from it.
I wasn't convinced by our substitutions in Cavan and thought they were poor today. Making three subs in the last couple of minutes after we had conceded a run of scores was never going to achieve anything.

Order restored after today. We played bad teams over the last few weeks and JUST ABOUT got results against them. Today we played another bad team and got found out.
Positives... Brennan on 45s
Negatives... Where do I start? I Don't want to go there.

The game had absolutely nothing riding on it for us (unless you value finishing top half). However having got in the position to be 3 up with 15 mins left to concede 7 in a row and not even have a shot in that time is a concern. Confused as to why Moriarty wasn't brought on much earlier as Walsh was having a poor day inside (could have taken somebody else off and kept Walsh half forward even) and why Scully wasn't brought on. I know next week is another dead rubber but we can't afford a big beating like we got against Armagh and Derry&Dublin last year. I think that would badly knock us back before championship
