Clubs Competitions Schedule 2024

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Any update on start of club competitions this year? Has anyone any inkling when A leagues are due to commence and if hurling will still get precedence over football for weekend fixtures. Surely the football A leagues are due their turn with having the games scheduled for weekends rather than Tuesday evening rush all the time. If I remember correctly up to 4 A league football fixture rounds were put out on Tuesdays after bank holiday weekends last year with numerous no shows in the lower leagues. A bit of forward thinking and lessons learned required here. Are the Cup competitions going to commence so early again. Again I'm sure there could be more club competition during the summer even if it means playing a match 4 or 5 days apart rather than dragging the year out from late Jan/early Feb until November. I thought that was the point of the split season in the first place!

The biggest thing to avoid no shows in the lower leagues is to not put first and second teams on the same night. This is just insane. Unfortunately I think the football will continue to have the midweek fixtures due to the large number of teams in each division. I still think 10 teams per division with 9 league games a year is plenty and it also means that all the cup competitions can be run off properly at the beginning of the year without finals having to be pushed out to the summer or later.

Can you blame clubs for being disappointed. A full clear out of CCC from last year is crazy. In fairness last year had everything in order. Any other rumblings from the meeting?

the outgoing chair thanked all his sub committee's at convention i assume, once he stepped down all the committees appointed by him were also finished, no harm to see new blood

The comments came from the club delegates of the outgoing members along with some of those that were stepping aside. This is exactly the reason why ongoing change is Healthy. The new Chairman didn't thank them because they weren't under his Chair. JK thanked them at the convention when he stepped down. After every convention all committees as disbanded and then reformed for the new term. It was also said that the master fixture planners is been worked on and that the year would be laid out.

Would u not think it was only manners to thank out going committees for there work don't think it would have killed him and imo its looks bad on the chairman not to

Yea but first round of the cup comps isn't until the weekend of Feb 24th/25th and I think the League 1st Round isn't for a full month after that so still plenty of time to announce fixtures. I'd imagine the cup ones till be sent out the week starting Monday 12th of Feb at the earliest

I dont think that the hurling clubs are too happy with the calender as their games are all being condensed into a shorter timeframe, also a reduction of games from last year. What I heard from a lad from our sisterclub who hurl.

Is there actually anyway of keeping everyone happy? Traditionally Meath is a football county should they take preference? Also I agree we should have fixtures out by now for League/Knockout competitions.

What an archaic and ridiculous comment! This is Indicative of why we have such a small number of competing counties in hurling nationally. Similar attitudes to what the likes of waterford, kilkenny and others would say in relation to developing football.

Don't think hurling games have been reduced. Still at least 1 Cup game, 7 League games and 5 championship.

The cups are not knock out so likely there will be 3 games. Problem is hurling league not starting until April. Also there are football league fixtures in between the 1st and 2nd round of the hurling championship. This traditionally a football county is some muck to throw out when we haven't been competitive at football for over 20 years.
