You're on the ball again fella."
Ah you are still on a high from our magnificent Tailteann Cup win you now feel Meath are too important to win OB cups! I suppose we should kick the league to touch too and concentrate on the All Ireland? Or maybe you'd be happier with a bad league so we get another crack at the TC in 2025?

I dont fully agree with all this "playing 60-70" players malarkey either - how many minutes are all of those players actually getting in OB cups and challenges. We dont have the luxury of Galway or those teams that have a set core set of players who are playing top championship football year in and year out and know the score. they can afford to hold off on those players
COR should have had how homework done from last season - Im not sure where he found 30 extra lads from that were not good enough last year!!

We need to be concentrating on the panel thats there and as was said before ... use development squads for these young lads and be working on a system and coaching the players thats there to follow that system. That can only be done by these lads playing regularly and training as a core group! (Have we even a system though?? )
and when we have that we can then start adding new blood on a yearly basis!

I could be wrong here...but I think you have an issue with Colm 'O Rourke as manager...

Disappointed to not get another game. The merits of sending out a very experimental team in this comp versus playing a string team in a challenge are up for debate. Harry I think should really be considered for the no1 jersey come league but all 3 have claims. Which is a change over the years.

Anyone know what the story is with Cian McBride? Has he had an opportunity to come into the squad? Doesn't want to? Not good enough? I was hoping I'd see his name pop up during OB cup.

I don't get your preference for Harry Hogan. Okay he's decent as is Billy but Sean Brennan was excellent when he came in and was brilliant in TC final. Unless Brennan has a dip in form, there will be no change. Possession nine tenths of law!

If it was done the other way around, what would we find out?

Go out at full strength v Longford, and put the development players out against a strong Galway team?

Don't think that would show us much.

We know have seen that there is some potential in the development squad in a game more suited to them, and will hopefully get a few questions answered around the forst team against a strong div 1 outfit.
To me, that makes more sense and the right thing to be doing in January.
40 players will get game time this weekend at a level matching where they are expected to be operating.

Big time. Latest accusation now is that COR is giving too many players a chance to impress. And of course no players are allowed to improve, they were all the finished article last year of course so should be discarded forever more…

Any details of the Galway game? Time, line up? I know it's behind closed doors but it would be good to know how we get on given it's our first team.

He was named checked by COR in recent interview so expect he is part of extended panel, maybe injured or might be part of setup for Sat game.

RD, probably the only way that Galway would have agreed to come over to Navan today would have been if Colm committed to playing the first team. It wouldnt have been worth their while to make the journey to playMeath's second string.

Hopefully it will be a good prep for the National League game.

I think he was going back to Australia in January but not long term and would be back on the panel. From what I have seen of him since minor he would be well down the pecking order for midfield at the moment

Ahh yeah I see the merits to it and all. Just disappointed not to get another game as a supporter. It's been a long wait.

Brennan showed well but let's be honest tc is way below level of league 2 where Harry has experience. For me Brennan has done well in b competitions. But until he proves that at top level jury still out. Hopefully he will.

Colm's own words.
when it comes to picking a goalkeeper for the game against Fermanagh.

"That is as big a problem now, trying to chose between them (Sean Brennan, Harry Hogan and Billy Hogan). I'd say most counties would be happy to have any of the three goalkeepers we have. It's a good position to be in.

"When most people sit down to pick a team at least the goalkeeper is definite, but now we have a choice between three.

So not only me in the position. However considering where we were for years regarding goalkeeping this is a huge boost

I get what ur saying, it's more disappointing personally that I'd have liked another game to attend. (As I'm sure most would have ). But hopefully in the long run this works out better.
On another note. Great facilities in din/ash. Congratulations to all those involved, it's a nice place to go two weeks running.

I was very much in favour of COR and excited about the fact that he comes with a great intellect when it comes to GAA.

I am just very shocked to see some of his decisions when it comes to the coaching of this team. And also his approach to getting a good system in place thats in line with whats required to play in the modern game.
We have not moved forward in that regard and dont have a coaching ticket in place that this bunch of players deserve.

Very surprised and also annoyed that it is taking us so long as a county to move forward.
Lets see what this year brings but already Im not happy that we are conceding the likes of 20 points in games!! I dont care how inexperienced the teams are .... its up to the management to get a good defensive system in place that players can play to.
And it does show that maybe we should be forgetting about giving 60-70 lads a go pre-season and have a panel in place that should be getting used to a system. PLaying 70 lads in 7 or 8 OB cup / challenge matches - how many minutes are they all getting and how can they get used to anything!!

So Im not a fan at the moment but I would LOVE to be proved wrong this year!!!
And I will be the first to put my hands up if I am!! :)

Had a phone call earlier saying we were well beat. And now just after getting off the phone with another person who said we won the game. Make of that what you will. :).
