Bookies were fools when they had St Colmcilles at 9/1 to beat Ratoath….

Well done to the county Board for anticipating the heatwave and having matches in the evening. I always felt it was wrong to have big inter County matches on in the afternoon during a heatwave. Dangerous for all involved. Pity Croke Park officials dont think of participants. To hell with TV demands

Well done to don/ash. Good entertaining game. Bryan menton could still do a job for Meath.

Doubt it's anything to do with the weather, they rarely have games earlier that 5 on a Saturday anyway.

Big win for The Tones yesterday, they will still fancy their chances in this championship.

Expect The Hill and Ratoath to book their spots later this evening with ease.

Only small surprise of the weekend was Na Fianna losing to Senchalstown, the appeal situation seemed to do them no favours in the end. They wont have it easy against Skyrne either in semis.

It's all about keeping lads fit now and getting that small piece of luck in the games.

Replying To Crinigan:  "It was same for Blackhall when they were decent. Most Meath GAA people, including journalists are not from south Meath - so Kildare border teams get little interest and there is not much knowledge of the best players etc. Na Fianna in my opinion have 3rd best team in Meath (not that you'd think it on here!) and a decent motivator and competent manager in Cormac Davy."
You might want to reconsider your rankings, they were way off....
If they win their next game you can call them the 3rd worst team in meath.

UPGRADING OF KEY SKILLS AT INTERCOUNTY FOOTBALL LEVEL.
Did somebody say that our top table have put together a development squad who are charged with the task of uprading and improving standards in key areas at inter county level I believe a club delegate made a great case for special attention for freetakers who show potential to be facilitated (coached).I understand it will be done as a pilot project. We cant argue about the value of a reliable freetaker based on results even in last few all Irelands I believe other key skills where improvement is needed is to be given special attention also. I think based on the last few years of very slow progress could indeed be altered with needs being addressed in this way. I hope i didnt just dream that up. Vision AND creativity is always worth a shot anyway...more of the same where BLATANT needs seem to be given scant attention.... No Thanks !! I can hear "ah but shur thats covered in normal training anyway" .....yeh right and how well is that approach working ??

Very unfortunate for Dunshaughlin to go out like that. I said Dunshaughlin at 8/1 was a great bet for a punter during the week. A goal 4 mins into injury time. If Summerhill can find better form than they did today i'd definitely fancy them to go all the way!

I remember a time when Ratoath were accused of lacking bottle..... We absolutely stole that and will be dumped out by Tones again if we perform like that again.

Well - we have more than a 2 horse race now!!! After the weekend fixtures, Summerhill and Tones look most impressive
Ratoath will be ecstatic about scraping through and will undoubtedly be hoping they can get their injured squad members back to full fitness
Ashbourne after scraping through the group stage - minutes away from a relegation game won't be too afraid of any of the other 3!
Summerhill probably favourites now!

As for the relegation battle - it will be equally as enthralling for followers (although not for the clubs themselves!) probably harder to call than the championship itself - na Fianna - minutes away from a championship quarter final probably can't believe where they are! Likewise Moynalvey who only lost one game in the group stages!
Can Skyrne avoid the big drop!!

The Meath Senior Championship is absolute muck, Ratoath and Dunshaughlin was some of the worst football you'll ever see. A point each at half time.. Ratoath managed 3 points by the 45th min. Mad scenes at the end though.

Trim managed a grand total of 2 points after 43 mins against Summerhill, Simonstown kicking 1-1 in the second half against Tones. Is the standard really gone that bad? No wonder our championship winners barely get past the 1st round in the Leinster club championship.

Outside of the shooting in the first half it was actually quite a good and open game. Normally 0-01 to 0-01 you would think it was negative 15 behind the ball, but Ratoath left probably 1-05 or 106 out there and Dunshaughlin missed an easy 4 or 5 points as well, all from inside the 'scoring zone' so to say it was one of the worst games ever I don't think is fair, it was one of the worst shooting displays ever in the first half. The second half was an excellent half of football, Dunshaughlin dominated probably the first 17-20 mins and after that then Ratoath took over, clawed their way back into the game and absolutely robbed it at the death. They will definitely need to up their performance for Tones in 2 weeks, but lets not make this about Ratoath playin badly, Dunshaughlin were excellent yesterday and will come very close to winning Keegan in the next 3-5 years if they don't lose lads to emigration

Stole it or poor game management by dunsaughlin, take your pick, dunsaughlin had this in the bag but spurned 2 great chances near the end to close it out, their goalkeeper taking time out to readjust his foot wear in injury time , David gough is no fool and adds on another minute for time wasting in which ratoath strike the killer blow, cracks appearing in ratoath but good champions find a way, Better team on the night lost, Wolfe tones will be encouraged .

Very quiet journey home, through Ratoath too! Two things I thought made the difference. Their bench was a lot more influential than ours and the difference in experience was decisive. We made poor decisions with the game at our mercy while they stayed calm and found a way to win it. They have done that a few times in recent years in fairness. Maybe this was the chance to catch them and they will shake themselves down for Tomes, but they didn't look like champions elect never mind Leinster contenders. Anyway, light years away from the relegation nightmare and much to look forward to. Well done lads, great year.

Costello and Kinsella were immense in the second half. Kinsella has to be a starter for Meath next year, he is that good. But both players could have sealed the game but missed great chances - they may even have worked a goal chance with their opportunities. Dunshaughlin played great stuff 15 mins after half time but they just left the door open and Ratoath kept the scoreboard ticking over. A bit more experience and Dunshaughlin would have seen it out - but that experience will come with time. Add in Conor Grey and this team should challenge in the next 3 years. I thought the first half was interesting - with the set up of the team and how they built up. It was tactical. Not poor football. The only thing that was poor was the shot selection of a few players.

Anybody know the relegation semi finals?
Moynalvey, Dunboyne, Skyrne, Na Fianna

Would not have predicted any of them to be in trouble at the start of the year. Skyrne obviously minus a lot this year, but to imagine them playing intermediate next year would be a sad thing for Meath football.
But we've seen it happen over past few years with mainstays like NOM, Dunshaughlin.
