Eoghan Frayne is just different class, he's already better than most of the senior team forwards and I've no doubt about that. I see Tyrone seniors are playing their superstar u20 captain Ruari canavan why don't we do the same? Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 184 - 22/03/2023 20:46:29 2465927 Link 1 |
Because the success of the 20's and the leadership they get from having Eoghan Frayne as their captain at every training and game is worth far more to the county now and for the future than what he could do on the seniors this year

Agree, much more to be gained by keeping this group together until after their season is over. COR has said this alteady. But great to hear positive talk about u20s.

Adam McDonnell was a long term injury but I think they're hopeful of having him back for some of the championship. Mark Coffey out for the championship. Alan Bowden out for a few weeks John McCarthy said post game, not sure about Killian Smyth, Caulfield with a hamstring you'd think would be doing well to make a semi final if we were to get there. It didn't look the most serious of hamstring strains but will be a few weeks. Billy Hogan carrying a quad injury but think subbing him off was just a precaution and he should be fine for Tuesday

I'd encourage anyone feeling down about Meath football to watch this group play. The future is bright. Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 184 - 25/03/2023 08:22:34 2466384 Link 0 |
Hearing good news, that these injuries aren't as serious as thought could see caufield hogan Bowden smyth all back within the next 2-3 weeks

Still a strong team but probably 6 starters missing in Hogan, O'Regan, McDonnell, Killian Smyth, Caulfield, Alan Bowden. Hopefully it's a case of they are not risking them with the Laois game in 7 days LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 28/03/2023 13:17:28 2467307 Link 0 |

An easy win. Actually didn't play all that well. Got off to an incredible start 1-5 to 0-0 after 6 mins and went very flat after it. Allowed Carlow quite a few chances and probably lost the kickout battle but they couldn't convert any shots. Good to be through from the group. Win or draw with Laois next week and we're in a semi final, lose and we're in a quarter final. I think it's important to get the semi final and get the week off to allow some injuries heal (looked like Shaun Leonard might have picked up an injury yesterday too). But the teams quality is evident to see killing the game so early. Conceding 0-4 in back to back games is very impressive also LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 29/03/2023 08:48:05 2467483 Link 3 |
Didn't make it last night, I listened in on LMFM, Meath seemed to kill off the game very early, who were the standout players last night? Frayne seemed to have a quiet game missed a few shots? Meath112233 (Meath) - Posts: 38 - 29/03/2023 10:56:41 2467517 Link 0 |
Any standout/strong performances last night loyalroyal23 (Meath) - Posts: 20 - 29/03/2023 11:02:44 2467519 Link 0 |
Kinlough and kinsella from the radio commentary. But didn't get to game. Game over after 10 minutes. And team seemed to drop off when a monsoon shower hit. Maybe switched off which is something management might have to work on but apart from that it was a clear cut win against very poor team. Next week will be a bigger test. But I'd still expect a win.

Kinsella took his goals well. Brian O'Reilly was good I thought. Brian O'Halloran and John Finnerty quite good. Liam Kelly good in defence few mistakes on the ball. Not too many with outstanding performances but still comfortable and defensive and structural good

This is a very promising team with a decent chance of success, they have dominated both their games without I believe hitting top gear, I expect them to handle Laois, who had tight games with Carlow and Longford, next Tuesday night and top the group and go straight into a semi final. There are players on the U20's who would be good enough for the senior squad right now but the right thing is being done in leaving them be with their own squad and concentrate on the U20 championship Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3744 - 29/03/2023 16:46:26 2467645 Link 8 |
A bit of a surprise that Under 20 All-Ireland champions Tyrone got knocked out of the Ulster Championship by Down at the Quarter Final stage. Meath having played both of those teams in the preseason cup, drawing with Tyrone in Ashbourne and beating Down up there. Donegal only beating Antrim on penalties, does not say much for Donegal as Meath hammered Antrim a few weeks ago in the preseason cup. Frayne probably had one of his more quiet games the other night but at that still kicked a few great scores to just give a push on and created lot of chances too with link up play. Kinsella was good the same again lot of chances created but apart from that i thought the forwards were just average, for me not enough scorers in the forward line very dependent on the two lads but with that Oisin Keogh tries hard and does get on the scoresheet but against a good team will he do at full forward? I think he lacks a bit of mobility inside. Midfield played well and the partnership of Grey and Kinlough looked solid but Carlow midfielders in my opinion definitely didn't get destroyed was a test on our lads 100% but just had a bit more class overall. Defence did what they needed to do last night, out in front, hand in on the greasy ball and everyone won there overall battle. Brian O'Halleran is playing great football, stuck in and loves to get forward and on the ball which i think is a good thing once the players are aware and cover back if needed. Liam kelly rock solid few mistakes on the ball but definitely solid at full back. Brian O'reilly played well seemed to be just sitting back last night a bit more could be looking at him for a sweeper role in the next few games but should suit him and looks good at 6 redracoon (Meath) - Posts: 57 - 30/03/2023 20:31:09 2467892 Link 3 |
Alan Bowden should be back soon so he'll add more scoring in the form he was in. Have to say I disagree with you on Oisin Keogh. He seems to have improved a lot. Maybe lacks a bit of mobility but brilliant pair of hands and well able to win his own ball at this level and kick scores. You are possibility right about a lack of scores from 10 and 12. But if Caulfield were to come back you could have Emmanuel, Frayne, Caulfield, Kinsella, Keogh and Bowden. Definitely enough scores and ability in that front 6 I think. Agree with you on the backs and the midfield. Important to get Billy Hogan back as his kickouts give us a good platform

Alan Bowden hopefully will come back in soon and continue the form he had before the injury. I absolutely agree with you if you have all that front 5 available to play then scores should come. Keogh has been great the last 2 games i've been too and absolutely worthy of his place I just hope when it comes to the big games against tough opposition he steps up, at the minute absolutely worthy of his place. Billy Hogan will be very key, I think Oisin McDermott is a brilliant keeper but Hogan is just a step ahead with kickouts etc. Let's see what is too come!
