what would be really difficult to swallow...would be a continuing decline by Dublin....and Kildare , instead of Us...being the ones to take that opportunity and go on to win a Leinster title...if that happens...oh lordie..

i find it difficult to post stuff on here now simply because I have lived abroad for a number of years but on this forum since the beginning (2005 or so) . I know very little about club football which is understandable. You would hope we will dispose of Wicklow on Sunday which sets us up for a day out in croker. My only issue with the whole McEntee reign is we haven't really learned anything from division 1 and the super eights , it hasn't brought us on which we thought it might do for whatever reason. One positive note recently though is we seemed to have settled on a decent keeper which was badly needed. From what I'm told by those in the know is that we could have a decent championship if we avoid any major injuries.

I think that is accurate. However I think both management and players who may call it a day will want to go out with a bang. And that's why I'm thinking everything and I mean everything is been put into Leinster, I do fear if we don't reach the final that we will throw our hat at it. But if we reach the final then I believe we will throw the kitchen sink at whoever we play, it would be criminal for the likes of keoghan, menton , McGill etc to not at least have a Leinster medal to look back on. At least players like orurke farrrel ward biggy Sheridan burke bray etc had one . So hopefully. I know lot of people thinking this year is a washout for the above reasons I'm not so sure , I do think next year will be though with new management and probably a lot of retirees. Next year for me is all about avoiding tailteann cup. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 28/04/2022 13:13:28 2413854 Link 0 |
I just think we might be the ones. Not evidence based but I'd imagine this has been the goal all year. From the limited bit I heard the panel seem to be flying, no major injuries everyone in great form and total unity. But all the above does not win games as we know. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 28/04/2022 13:29:37 2413861 Link 0 |
Or even worse ---- Louth!!!

Yep thats where James is most effective. And once every 8 or 9 games he brings his shooting boots and weighs in with a couple of points which is an added boost.....

I'm not sure who all these retirees are that people are talking about, McGill is 29/30 and Menton & Keoghan are 30/31 maybe?? After that the rest of the squad are all in their 20's to the best of my knowledge so I don't see why any would retire based on age anyway, none have any long term injuries the way the likes of Newman had so it would only really be lads walking away from county football which I don't think would happen with a new management team coming in, if anything that would entice some players back

While I see what you are saying I do think many of the experienced players might view the commitment v reward as a problem going forward , also that a new regime might want to look to the future and build and might not rely on some players as much as previous one. Look it's all speculation at this stage, I do know one player who has said this is his last year regardless of who is there next year. I am absolutely not going to say his name. Now can he be convinced to stay another year ?? Hopefully.

There is a subdued atmosphere around this game largely because of the so-so league campaign, and particularly the first few games v. Galway and Roscommon. The feeling, even among the moderate majority of Meath fans, is that this season is a bit of a write off and that the management and system is in its endgame. There's a writing on the wall type of feeling about Meath at present. Personally I felt that the first few league games was like the end of an era which began in 2018 and encompassed the peaks of our best players in the 2010s decade. The getting to division one, competitive albeit limited nature of the performances against top sides, and back to back Leinster finals now seems like a long time ago. Things have come full circle and councidentally the team does feel like its coming near its end, in my view. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 596 - 30/04/2022 10:20:41 2414114 Link 17 |
Bit of a shake up for starting 15 which is badly needed. Or will we revert to type before throw in, hopefully not, looks like a more balanced side. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2196 - 30/04/2022 11:59:43 2414137 Link 6 |
Dublin and Kildare both will ply their trade in division two with us next year. That been said I still think Dublin are the benchmark for Leinster and probably not without a chance of winning a all ire. Kildare on the other hand ? No I just don't buy it. And indeed could be up against it v louth.

I would also like to add that on a broader scale there is a sense of dissillusionment with moderates, who are a majority of Meath supporters and always have been, with the running of the game here, which is not a coincidence with the decline in the fortune of the senior mens team. In fact it runs hand in hand. If our neighbours, the smallest county in Ireland, with a very limited GAA population can plan, execute and start to build a stadium within a few years, and a top quality manager can bring them to the decent standards of Division 2 at a minimum again in a few years, then what on Earth is the excuse for the Pairc Tailteann fiasco, which at this stage is an embarrassment? just a thought. Is it any wonder really? Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 596 - 30/04/2022 15:01:31 2414183 Link 17 |
Anyway team looks good. The new guys are getting their chance. I'm very optimistic and I was out home today and great buzz around for championship, as one fella said to me who will remember or care about the league if we win Leinster? Fair point I think. My one worry is a few of them seem very dismissive of Wicklow and looking forward to who we might get in draw. I think that is more the case with not so much interest on a broader scale royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/04/2022 17:45:53 2414222 Link 0 |
Best of luck to meath tomorrow and for the rest of the year, we have nothing to lose and are written off by everyone including our own so there's no pressure whatsoever on this meath team which makes a change, Dublin aren't what they used to be and meath kildare fixtures are always 50/50 regardless of who has the better players and you'd back meath all day long against the rest of leinster, hopefully meath go fighting and drop every ounce of sweat for mcentee in his last year and at 11-1 with paddy Power might be worth a punt for leinster, hon the royals. Ok just heard on RTÉ sport radio that winners of Dublin v Wexford play winner of Meath v Wicklow. Is this accurate? Has the draw taken place ? royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/04/2022 18:26:00 2414227 Link 0 |
Just heard the exact same. Can't find it anywhere online but 100% the commentator said the Dublin and Wexford we're playing to face Wicklow or Meath in the Leinster semi final. pointless having an open draw if it's held BEFORE the quarter finals take place.... Don't think the draw takes place until tomorrow royaldunne but I could be wrong.

Exactly. I couldn't believe my ears. I was all excited for the draw, but now I'm worried that it's fixed.
