Meath Vs Wicklow

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So it's Wicklow at home. They aren't a very good side and it's at home too so we should be looking at putting in a good performance and getting confidence into our forwards. My team would be
1. Harry H
2. Eoin H
3. McGill
4. Robin C
5. Hickey
6. Harnan
7. Keoghan
8. Jones
9. Menton
10. Jack O'C
11. Thomas
12. Scully
13. Cillian
14. Shane W
15. Jordy M

Couldnt really disagree with that team really, think O'Connor deserves a start & chance to show himself.
Also leaves us with a solid bench aswell

Wicklow ran up a big score but also conceeded a lot. Home advantage and playing at a higher level in league should see us progress. J Mac and Costello may be better options than Reilly and especially Walsh who gave us little or nothing during in league, however both seem to preferred by management. This game aside its difficult to see where our scores are coming from against good defenders.

LR i couldn't diagree with that team, and they'll probably run up a huge score on sunday, but Sunday is no test and we need to be honest about that. We scored 7-14 against them in 2020 and if it was a similar scoreline on Sunday it would be expected given Laois got 4-12.

I think the continued inabilty to score heavily against a better team who we'll play in the semi finals will expose us. We can only hope we draw the winner of the Longford Westmeath game to get through to a Leinster final. I think Leinster GAA will be hoping for a bumper pay day by having Meath v Dublin in the Leinster final in both Mens and Ladies football being on the same day,

Id travel as much for the lasses vs the Dubs as the lads vs the Dubs and I live in England.

I'm genuinely concerned by how little interest there is in this game

Is it total apathy from people towards the team?

Is it the opposition?

Do people just no longer care?

Thought there might be some chat about starting team or hopes people might have but i think I'm at a point of i just don't care and want the season to be finished and look to rebuild in 2023 and a new regime

I'd hardly say a lack of chat on a site like this means there is no interest in the game. There are about 10 genuine posters on it and the rest are wind up merchants.
There good interest and even optimism around my club anyway and hopefully we will get a good turnout for the game and put in a decent performance as well.

A mix of all, success breeds success and we have been also rans for too long now. Too many flaws in our game has lowered expectations to an all time low. I realise there were barren spells over the years, however when championship came around there always seemed to be hope, no matter how missplaced it was. Can we put on a show in championship? Results over last few years would suggest not and a win on Sunday, while welcome, will tell us little. A Leinster Final would be great, as qualifiers this year looking very tough. Last chance for management and several players, so maybe we get a positive reaction.

Was there ever a time when a championship opener vs. Wicklow was particularly anticipated? The vast majority of people in Meath (and Ireland) reckon Meath will win, so other than repeating that prediction or hedging your bets with "oh don't write Wicklow off, sure 5 goals....1991....Mick O'Dwyer" type stuff, there isn't much to say about the game.

It's different, and can probably see reasoning for some of your picks, but can't see it happening.

Keoghan is so important for ball carrying so there's no way he'll take him from 7.

Costello's also a good carrier, and I dunno if Sunday is a day to start experimenting with him at 14 when it wasn't tried in the league.

But your team is something different and was good to see other options.

1 Hogan
2. Harkin
3. McGill
4.
5. Hickey
6. Harnan
7. Keogan
8. Menton
9. Jones
10. Costello
11. O reilly
12.
13. Morris
14. Walsh
15. O Sullivan

I think realistically there are two spots up for grabs.
Clarke or Muldoon in the full back line. James Mc, Scully,
Or o Conner in the forwards. I would guess it will be Scully and clarke

Think based on from Scully absolutley starts. Offaly Cork Clare & Derry he was immense. Super running with the ball & back breaking up the play in the defense. For me he goes straight in there at 10/12.

Clarke muldoon & J Mac is an even toss up for 4, but If I had to pick it now, I think Clarke just about shades it based on how he finished the league, though he was solid and deserves his shot & also means that J Mac in reserve gives you more options from the bench as he can me deployed either side of midfield depending on whats needed.

i have a lot of sympathy for the squad (and Management)...as everyone knows this is the last year of this Management Team , and that is a terrible overhang to have around the squad, before a ball is even kicked. If im reading the general mood correctly i think the general sense of pessimism is allied to the realisation that this Year is a washout for the Seniors , is the lack of an apparent New regime with the necessary energy enthusiasm , vision & credentials to step in
We all must accept that when andy goes, .two things will happen to our older players ...either they themselves will decide that they cant go on with yet another new managment team, or the new Manager will look to side-line them in time for new blood....that is the way of the world...but it doesn't make it something to look forward too....so overall....death by a thousand cuts in 2022.....and then slow rebuild starting in 2023...if we are lucky

Agree Jinxie, I don't think James is a natural 4 anymore and likes to get forward, if he plays hickey would step into fullback lines I would guess.

Against better sides I would imagine James plays in half forwards and sweeps to an extent
