Fair enough. I thought Martin was still under 20 but I didn't really know about O'Neill. Full back line possibly our weakest on this team then I would say

Think the under 20's had a challenge game last weekend. Anybody know who it was against or how it went by any chance? LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 07/02/2022 15:30:50 2398982 Link 4 |
I think Alex Williams from Kells, Luke Demange Wingback from Drumbaragh and Ellis Maguire Corner back from Moynalty are 3 players being overlooked well able to improve the squad and are better than some of the lads from it Meath32245 (Meath) - Posts: 75 - 10/02/2022 17:01:06 2399704 Link 0 |

Very exciting young panel. I think I'd be right in saying that we shouldn't expect too much this year but moreso next year from a lot of these lads.

Safe to say Diarmuid Moriarty stood out in that development league game against Dublin, himself and Conor Frayne could make a serious 2 man inside line, thought Sean Emannuel was excellent too, he kind of has it all. redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 404 - 19/02/2022 17:52:43 2401119 Link 0 |
Shame Conor Frayne is 4 years overage so

For the Dublin game, nine of the fifteen starters and five of the seven subs introduced are eligible to play Under 20 in 2023, so it is shaping up nicely for next year, but all the players that are there this year are good enough to give a right go at winning the Leinster championship and more. As a Meath supporter I would be happy enough with the result as if we had beaten the Dubs there would be a lot of hype and expectations coming down on the lads. We could have won the game only for a few errors which the Dubs took advantage of and punished Meath heavily. However, it is a pity we didn't win against the Dubs, but the management focus appears to be (and rightly so) trying to get a good look at everyone and have a really good idea when this tournament is over what the starting 15 should be for the championship. You can't beat a competitive game and Saturdays game will give the Meath management team plenty to discuss and work on as it was a very useful exercise. Of course of that match day panel listed above for the Dublin game there are quite a few missing from that list that (as far as I know) are on the squad, that you would expect will be included in future games like Oisin Martin, John McDonagh, David Bell, Alan Bowden, Sean O Donoghoe, Ende Echnoya , Aaron Murphy, Jamie Browne, Luke Moran, Aaron Chinchilla, Luke Caffrey and a few more of last years All Ireland Minors like Leonard, Finlay, O Muruchu & O Regan. There were some really good individual performances from promising future Meath stars and hopefully if the Meath U20 management continue to develop them, they will in the next few years start having an impact at Senior level for Meath. Would agree with this the management didn't seem to be concerned at any point. And it's a good marker for players to know a) they are right there with beating Dublin and b) they need to get better to get there. Just wondering do you know if Chinchilla, Bell, Oisin Martin, Bowden and O'Donoghoe, Leonard, Finlay, O'Murchu and O'Regan are on the panel or was it just a guess that they might come back in?

All are on panel bell Martin bowden injured, odonoghue away I believe and Leonard finaly omurchu and oregan haven't been training due to mock exams, though Adam McDonnell had a decent game for a lad who hasn't played since last September due to another knee surgery I believe was his first game back, laois this weekend hopefully get 2points

Thanks for that. That's great and means there's a real depth to this squad. Let's hope the 20's game doesn't clash with the senior game as they are both on Saturday I believe

Game is on at 12 on Saturday,it's in clonard which is only about 40mins from tullamore so people would be able to do both at a push if they wanted royal1967 (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 23/02/2022 10:31:59 2402014 Link 1 |
And of course we also have Caufield to come back in, which is great.

I was at 20s yday first time to see them in the flesh.i came away thinking very disjointed laois better organised.maybe to many chiefs along the line.definitely have potential but wasnt as excited ajout them after yday. Borderroyal (Meath) - Posts: 496 - 27/02/2022 12:21:37 2402657 Link 0 |
Would share similar feelings I think. The team seems to be very disjointed, but championship isn't until April so still plenty of time to get it sorted. I think Billy Hogan, Liam Kelly, Sean Emmanuel, Conor Gray, Eoghan Frayne and Diarmuid Moriarty are all nailed on starters and all serious prospects. But after that I don't actually think anybody else is nailed on to start and the team seems a bit unsettled as a result. I don't want to be too critical because it's a development league and the panel still hasn't been cut down yet. But with the talent this team has anything less than a Leinster title would have to be considered a failure and we're a good bit off that level for now but we have a month to set that right
