With the championships now all wrapped up and the season in wind down mode time to look towards the 2022 season with a sense of hope.

With the backroom team changes confirmed and Andy having a year to go on his existing contract time to look forward.

We've heard that Lavin, Hickey and Shane Mac are away for some or all of 2022. Is there anyone else who won't be available?

Goalkeeper
Is Harry Hogan going to be the solution to this long standing problem position. Are his kick out's up to what is needed for the inter county game? Will they actually implement a coherent and well executed kick out strategy for 2022. Is there anyone else Andy will look at given he owes this team nothing beyond the season? Who will be the sub keeper? Can't imagine Colgan will stay given he's been dropped 5-6 different times during Andy's time in charge.

Defence
With reports we'll not have Seamus Lavin, Cathal Hickey and Shane McEntee for travel and work commitments where do we start with out 2022 defence. Will any of the injured players Shane Gallagher, Niall Kane, james McEntee return to bolster the squad? Will Gavin McCoy come back into the reckoning? Will Jordan Muldoon get more of an opportunity in 2022? Will padraic harnan be considered for being dropped back into a CHB position? Is there anyone from the club championships who's put up their hands to be included? Niall O'Reilly from Tones. Are any of last year's U20's possible additions for this season. Will David Toner or Robin Clarke be available for 2022.

Midfield
Possibly the biggest concern behind our keeper issues. Are there any new options available this year to add to Menton,Harnan and Brian Conlon (who could both drop back into defence) and Ronan jones (who might be more suited to WHF) Are Jack Flynn or Matthew Costello viable options for midfield? Can Danny Dixon build on his time with the squad last season?

Attack
Can the right balance be struck here? We've a lot of similar small fast inside forwards, but lack a playmaker at 11, guys at 10 and 12 who can win primary possession and can get up and down the field all day long, and a 14 who can win primary possession or break it for one of the inside forwards? And as always a guy who can be at least 70% plus from free's. Will Shane Walsh be back for 2022 and injury free? Could he be tried at 11 or 14 and solve one of those problems?

With the 3 guys missing from the defense my guess at a team would be
1.Harry Hogan (although I'd probably pick Andy Beakey if he was in the squad).
2. James O'Hare
3. McGill (presuming he's injury free, Ronan Ryan if not)
4. Donal Keoghan
5. James McEntee
6. Paraic Harnan
7. Fionn Reilly
8. Menton
9. Jones
10. Eamon Wallace
11. Cillian
12. Costello
13. Morris
14. Walsh
15. Joey Wallace/Donal Lenihan

Would like to see some of Aaron Lynch, Donal Lenihan, Frank O'Reilly, Conor Harford, Niall O'Reilly, Saran O'Fionnagan, Cathal Finnegan and Ciaran Slavin and Brian McGrath added to panel. I must admit with the 3 guys gone from the defense the team is a lot weaker, and I think divison 2 is quite good this year so promotion could be difficult

I presume you weren't in Navan last Sunday. Adam O'Neill the standout full back and probably player of the match. Every time I watched him all year he was super never got beaten by an opponent.

Some of the Wolfe Tones players that are definitely worth a look or another go with Meath are:

Adam O'Neill Full back: I have been very impressed with him the few times I have seen him and was outstanding on Sunday. Would come on even more with Inter County training and Strength and Conditioning.

Daniel O'Neill Halfback/Full back: Has been with Meath before but work commitments ruled him out in the past. Again would offer a lot as he is a physically strong ball carrier from half back and can also play in the full back line

Padraig Diamond Midfield: Very impressive in the final and is very strong in the air and ground. Not afraid to throw himself about and is good on the ball. Would benefit a lot from being involved at least with the county squad.

Shane Glynn was with Meath previously and was brilliant on Sunday, but may not want to commit at this stage in his career again, as he is in his late twenties. Niall O'Reilly may also be in with a shout.

IMO Diamond is a good club player who is physical and gives his all, he does not have the mobility to play inter county football.
The 2 O'Neills worth a shout, and the ship has sailed for Glynn, he left the panel himself a couple of years ago due to lack of opportunity.

Correct me if I'm wrong but did someone say McGill has a broken arm? So could be worth looking at Adam O'Neill. Generally Seamus Lavin has played FB when McGill has been out so with Lavin away we need someone else.

Would agree with you re Diamond , Both himself & O Callaghan slow but what they offer in terms of midfield pairing is the both very strong in the air and effective in the battle and give the faster players around them the space neede.

Niall o Reilly and O Neill the other wing back should be looked at for intercounty

Aaron Lynch has to be called up when you think of some of forwards on panels he is header and shoulders above a lot of time great young talent ready for inter county football

Think Luke Moran from Trim could be worth looking at for full back. Would be worried about Aaron Lynch physically at inter county, no doubt he has the ability though.

And Cathal Hickey is also travelling.

Shane McEntee travelling on a tour of duty too, and may miss some or all of the season.

I wouldn't imagine we'll hear about a preliminary squad until closer to the O'Byrne cup games.

With O'Byrne cup now being played i'd guess we'll see lads get a chance in a game or too like Luke Mitchell, Aaron Lynch, Adam O'Neill, Niall O'Reilly Jordan Muldoon and some others getting a chance to impress.

Haven't seen any draft list of fixtures yet but picked this up from Galway FM, seems we potentially away to Galway in first game of Division 2 next year…..

The Galway footballers, in Division 2 for next season, also look set to open up with a home game against Meath, with two further home ties against Offaly and Clare, but face away trips to Down, Cork, Derry and Roscommon. Padraig Joyce has added Cian O'Neill to his regular backroom team of John Concannon, John Divilly and Micheal O'Domhnaill.

Was widely reported that he was so only saying what i heard. If you've better knowledge then good to hear he's not going. Should really establish himself this year at WHB if available.
