A natural full forward line for me at the moment would be Mattimoe , Newman & Lenihan ( all possess scoring ability

Think he's referring to McKeever there LR, not Newman. McKeever came in during Andy's first year whilst he was playing very well for Simonstown and fell out with Andy after not getting a proper go at things. Think there was story did the rounds about a fitness test pre championship and two lads from Simonstown walking away (Conlon and McKeever coe tmind but could be wring) Its quite funny the amount of lads that have been involved with Simonstown and almost to a man they've fallen out with Andy. McKeever, Berlingham and Brian Conlon all fell out with him although Conlon did rejoin the panel.

Think there was a little petulance on the behalf of one of those you mentioned (I wonder say who) but cause he was been used as a sub he had a bit of a temper tantrum and demanded that he be started in all games. The performance upto that point hadn't been great, and Andy rightly imho told him no, not until he upped his game , and he had to fight for his right to start. Funny old game looking back on it now, he admitted he was wrong (the player) after awhile

Easy mistake to make old friend.

Newman seems to be one of the few that Andy hasn't had a falling out with despite Michael missing time. But that was as result of genuine injuries more than anything.

Funny I heard a different story at the time which I think is more accurate. Story I heard was that McKeever was told by Andy before a game that he didn't want to start him but other selectors did and to go out and prove him wrong. Not exactly encouraging from the manager and he had a poor game and afterwards he could see that he wasn't part of the plan for that year. Pretty sure he never said to anyone that he was sorry or wrong to leave the panel.

A few changes from last weeks starting 15 are definitely needed in my opinion. Firstly I think Jason Scully could be a very good option attacking from wing back, as he is a strong runner and his ball skills are of a high standard as well. Fionn Reilly was very impressive when he introduced but I think one more game as an impact sub could suit him and if he plays well again he will be in line for a start further down the line. Eamon Wallace was very good when introduced the last day and was more lively than Ethan Devine in my opinion and can offer us more of a scoring threat and is a better link man, and could also be an option inside. Bryan McMahon is nailed down for number 11 on Sunday after his impact off the bench. Thomas O'Reilly has started consistently over the past 2/3 seasons but still doesn't offer enough from play to warrant a start, be it either bringing others into the game or chipping in with scores from play himself. He could turn out to be a good impact sub when the game opens up a bit. James Conlon is nearly guaranteed 2 or 3 points a game if in from the start and is probably our most natural and consistent scorer. Also Andy Colgan proved that he is the best goalkeeper available to the county on Sunday. You couldn't have asked any better from his kick outs and chipped in with a crucial point as well. Once he has movement in front of him he can put a kick out right on the money for a player to run onto. His kicks don't hang in the air, which Marcus Brennan's did.

I agree with a lot of this. The main problem on Sunday and from the last 2/3 years is that our inside forwards aren't getting near to enough service. Morris was marked out of it on Sunday and the only ball Cillian and Thomas got on were through a hand pass around the 40.

The lack of service is due to our running game but also because a large number of our players are playing with fear. Creativity has been sucked out of the team and young Darragh Campion was poor on Sunday but he was the only one trying to find the full forward line with a kick pass in the first half. As a result he was replaced at half time, and this has been a feature of the team under Andy, young lads being penalized for making mistakes and having the confidence and creativity sucked out of them.

Yes, I would agree about the service to the full forward line. I don't think this is down to instruction but down to poorly executed passes (hand and foot). Balls being kicked/hand passed into corners or dribbled along the ground. All teams want to play mix of running the ball and kicking into the inside line, which Meath try to do as well. I think with the players we have on the pitch, the way the seem to play the game instinctively is to run the ball. We can still run the ball and have good movement. Kerry ran the ball several times against Galway on Saturday, with Gavin White (wing back) making runs in behind the Kerry the full forward line. Campion did try to find the full forward line with a kick pass, but often times these were sliced off the outside of his boot, blocked down or being kicked in from to far out. Unless you are playing with Kieran Donaghy inside, kick passes have to be sent in diagonally bouncing into the forward to run onto without breaking stride. Easier said than done, but this can only happen with good aggressive movement all over the forward unit, not just one or two men inside.

Probably one of the best summoning up of our game plan (or what should be our game plans ).

Poorly executed passes yes but lack of confidence too. Players like to run the ball but bar a few sideward passes we hardly kicked the ball at all and never got in behind Westmeath or created a goal scoring chance. Obviously, the way Westmeath set-up didn't help us. Team i would like to see vs Down is:

1. Colgan
2. Lavin
3. McGill
4. Ryan (Needs to offer more going forward).
5. Keogan
6. McEntee
7. Harkin
8. Menton
9. Harnan
10. Costello
11. O'Reilly (Seems to play most of his game out here, and is a good tackler).
12. Jack O'Connor (Great Talent, needs to be given more of a chance).
13. Morris
14. O'Sullivan (Freedom to move within the attacking half).
15. McMahon

Scully & Fionn Reilly done well the last day and need to come on and perform again to be in consideration for the next day. James Conlon and Wallace too and these 4 will inject some pace into the game when it is needed.

Jones, James McEntee big losses.

We missed about 1 out of every 2 shots. A trend not dissimilar to last year. How do we improve on this?
