Id also say Cathal O Dwyer deserved a run in with the county , he would run amok if he was on that county team today . . Spoke to a fella from Dunshaughlin who said he was badly injured which is why he retired ?? anyone confirm this? Id also put in Robert Ruddy from the furze in at 14 , a giant of a man and a handfull . . Would of given any full back his fill and lastly but most important Maurice Kennedy , very unlucky . . Got a run in the OB Cup but disclocated his knee cap and then never truly recovered , Imagine him and Gillespie midfield . . No one would have dominated the middle again over the Royal summerhillof69 (Meath) - Posts: 228 - 22/01/2021 09:30:38 2328434 Link 0 |
I see colm Kavanagh might give tyrone another go at 33 , mcentee would do worse than pick up the phone and talk to odwyer if his injuries are cleared up

No this tread is to discuss all the imaginary discrimination going on against all these brilliant footballers playing for small clubs

You cannot compare the two. Yes they are similar age but there's a huge difference between a seasoned intercounty all-ireland winner returning after a 1 year break and a good club player with absolutely no intercounty experience

Totally agree ! Cathal would make zero impact if he came in !

Probably one of the Kealey brothers from the Dunsaughlin team of the early 00s. They were fine footballers and hardy bucks - drove Dunsaughlin on to great success. The Blackhall team of the time was also excellent yet only had Moyles on the Meath team so probably a few lads from that. Its rare enough you see teams like that doing well yet having only one player on county panel. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 25/01/2021 15:09:40 2328894 Link 16 |
Crinigan think your history is a little fuzzy. All three Kealy brothers (Richie, Dermot and Denis) were involved with the Meath panel at various stages in the late 90's and early 00's. And i think Brendan the eldest was involved in the early to mid 90's. Of the Blackhall team of that era, Moyles, Nigel Nestor, Tadgh Brosnan, Mark Crampton and laterall Alan Nestor were all involved on the county panel to varying levels of success. Nestor obviously the stand out but Brosnan and Crampton didn't have enough to displace Ollie Murphy, Ray Magee and Daithi Regan on the team or panel. Oisin Kiernan was on a junior panel i believe and transferred to Cavan. These things happen, can't win em all. Look at Cork in late 80's Fahy and Tompkins Kildare men and won all ireland's. Or any of Micko's Kildare or Laois teams had multiple players not born or bred in the county. Even look at Conor Cox of Roscommon, played junior for Kerry but couldn't get into the Kerry panel. These things happen. Players move on and get better and good luck to them. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 25/01/2021 16:59:27 2328904 Link 17 |
Not sure my memory is so hazy. Richie Kealey was only Kealey to play championship with Meath. Pretty sure none of the other brothers ever played league football even with Meath. For Blackhall, Brosnan and Crampton never played league or championship either. There were much better players on that team anyway like the Beirnes, Dermot O'Brien, Cox, Dalton and McKeown if you talk to people in that club. In modern times, I think Beano of Kells would be a worthy shout. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 31/01/2021 22:19:47 2329927 Link 14 |
Dermot Kealy came on as a sub v Westmeath in the All Ireland 1/4 final in 2001

few lads from Donaghmore Ashbourne should have played with the seniors. dnewlad (Meath) - Posts: 137 - 03/02/2021 13:05:16 2330209 Link 0 |
Hey there, Which lads from Donaghmore/Ashbourne. Interested in who you think they should have given a chance. There's a few I can think of from the mid 00's onward. Colm O'Mealoid i think was one, think he played at 6?? Or might be someone else i'm thinking of. On the other players, first names might help? Which Dowd do you mean Trevor Dowd, Kevin Dowd etc. Hope that doesn't sound bitchy, genuinely interested in your opinions, brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 03/02/2021 17:18:51 2330220 Link 17 |
Brosnan played in the 2006 league under Eamonn Barry.
