I've been just thinking lately, who are the best players in the past 30 years not to play inter county? Hurling and Football Meathgaalad (Meath) - Posts: 171 - 09/01/2021 17:22:21 2326798 Link 0 |
Mairtin Doran, Kildalkey. While he did play football for the county he did not in my memory play senior hurling for Meath. Without doubt one of the best club hurlers of this or any era. Outstanding in all of Kildalkey's championship campaigns. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 10/01/2021 12:04:51 2326866 Link 0 |
Paul Carey from Senchaltown. Best wing back in Meath for 5 or 6 years. Injury prone but great man when fit. aces (Meath) - Posts: 162 - 10/01/2021 14:18:53 2326881 Link 0 |

You are thinking of his older brother, Mark. He never played senior but did play U21

Without a doubt the whole Kells team from each of the last 5 seasons should have played championship football for Meath. Scandalous how theyve never fielded an all Kells Meath football team. Sure theyre the most consistent team in Meath Meathgaa5 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 11/01/2021 10:11:21 2326945 Link 0 |

I'd say they might've allowed Mickey Newman in as he played schools and underage football with Round Towers. Although which Kells player would you drop for him. Agh i'm talking out me rear end, sorry Mickey, there's no place for you :) :) brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 11/01/2021 18:00:20 2327015 Link 18 |

Did Brian Clarke of Seneschalstown ever get a shot with Meath? He was one of the best club players in the county in the late 2000s. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 12/01/2021 11:59:48 2327090 Link 18 |
I think he might've got an O'Byrne cup game or two but was around at the same time as Cian Ward who was only a slightly worse free taker but better open play contributor.

I stand to be corrected but is Round Towers not Kilmainham and Drumbaragh combined underage?

Brian Sheridan had exceptional talent but for some reason just didn't make the grade. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 594 - 15/01/2021 18:29:25 2327615 Link 0 |
As a young lad I can't say I've a wealth of knowledge of the club game but from as long as I've been following it I can say that there was big potential in the early/mid-00s for aggressive changes in selection. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 596 - 15/01/2021 20:50:17 2327644 Link 17 |
