Replying To LeitrimRoyal99: "This is from April. A really terrible look for Meath football. A travesty for the group of players involved. And from the outside a horrendous look for senior management and for the county board for not coming down harder. The only possible mitigating factor is maybe Hickey and Costello really wanted to play senior and then this would rule them out of under 20's. But I've said it before on here, under 20 and 21's before it is the age group where the wheels come off for Meath teams. And absolutely everything should be done to stop this slide. And that includes possible short term pain for the seniors, which if it's that reliant on under 20's isn't going anywhere this season. This is as angry as I've been with a Meath football situation as I can remember" Anger is understandable in this case. Its gross incompetence on the part of the powers that be that this situation arises anyway. Sometimes its said here we should not be too negative towards leadership. I say i have never read any comments on here where the character or integrity of any individual was called into question .That of course would be wrong. An individual or groups competence called into question is quite acceptable ,as its not an attack on the integrity or character. We owe it to the players on the panel who put so much time and effort to ensure they get the best support possible from leadership. Meath football is all about the players and CB and administrators are there to support them ,and NOT the other way round. CB officers are honoured when given the RESPONSIBILITY in their roles to support the players in every way possible In Meath a radical change of attitude is required now, Key roles should be filled by people with COMPETENCE and the scope to develop themselves and the role as required. Its seems sometimes we fill the role on availability and those who are willing to just have a go, ,and maybe boost the ego. The 3 wise men idea looked like a distinct step forward in the right direction. It was an effort to review and examine key roles. An honest attempt to look at interview criteria, monitoring progress and designed to always have continuous progress as THE objective.. We are now in shambles and a laughing stock thanks to the INCOMPETENCE of leadership. DEFEND and SUPPORT our players by refusing to accept a continuation of this incompetence and the NEGATIVE attitude that would do little to encourage our players to stick it out. I think CB should now issue a clear explanation of what happened ,and why in this specific case.....just the facts without any VAT will suffice. After all CB should be also accountable in a case like this to the supporters. To suggest that these officers are just "volunteers" is a cop out ,and just serves as another excuse for lack of progress. To CB your silence is not helpful! Try communication .It does help to reduce speculation and annoyance.

I would fully agree & add, that "point scoring" to settle old scores, or taking sides now because of past misdeeds , will only get us right back to where we were....at the bottom of the rung The vast majority don't even know what the problem is. This isn't about the Two Guys, as I said yesterday, decisions our leaders make very day result in what happened last week . And this is happening every day in a lot of our clubs . And its easy to see which Clubs Great post

100% agree" The CB with appointment of new management have chosen "the move on, nothing to see here approach" Ignore it and it will go away, why change habits of a lifetime. Content in belief, they and they alone know what is best for Meath football.

Replying To LoyalRoyal: "So when are the U20's going to be playing?" 15th July. We have a bye into semi finals at minor and U20 this year. There are 4 first round games U20 games tonight with kildare playing Westmeath the standout game. All 4 winners tonight go into q final draw, where Dublin and Offaly await. Than 8th July is Q final stage where Dublin and Offaly enter the competition. And on the 15th July Meath enter competition at the semi final stage. The final is 22nd July.
The Under 20s have played 3 challenge games so far since return of training, already one v Monaghan under Kelly and Callaghan. I don't know how that game went.
But Meath under 20s played two challenge games under Flynn as manager and Meath were hammered in both games. While Flynn was manager, Roscommon under 20s and Cavan under 20s both hammered Meath under 20s in two recent challenge games. The performances were very poor, dreadful in both games from Meath.
Our record at this age group since 2001 is atrocious. Meath have won no leinster titles at U20/ U21 in 20 years. And Meath have reached 1 leinster final in the last 20 years at U20/21, that was in 2014. The last few years Dublin have hammered us at U20s, the games were over before half time. In my view ts not til the current minors come through the new programme were they will be monitored and developed from minor to U20, that we will see an improvement at U20. That's probably more likely the 2023 leinster U20 team under John McCarthy. I might be wrong, but hammering by Roscommon and Cavan before Flynm left are not great signs for this year.

I believe Monaghan gave them a hammering aswell, heard it was a poor performance by many lads

Sounds to me like Flynn saw an opportunity to jump ship when he realised this wasn't the same team that won Leinster Minor in 2018.

In terms of the challenge matches they played none of us are privy to the games, what happened in them, who lined up where etc but its well documented that Flynn and his team had 70 players on the panel and I'd guess he gave everyone game time during those challenges to see what they had on their hands before reducing the panel downwards. Again I'm not privy to what happened but i doubt Costello, Hickey and Flynn who would be three of the best players on the team were available to him.

By the sounds of the challenge games the team didn't seem to be moving well. I am just wondering that if the team was flying and looked as if they might be in a good position to challenge at provincial level and maybe at all ireland level would his stance have been so strong. I guess we will never know now.

I suppose we'll find out how the U20's will do whenever they are in their first match v Dublin/Wicklow. But no matter what happens in that it's not a stick to beat Bernard Flynn over the head with. One poster mentioned that half the panel Flynn had picked has been disgarded by Callaghan and Kelly so it's their team now, not Bernard Flynn's. In the same way that any success they might have will also be theres and not Bernard Flynn's.

You have to take Bernard Flynn's reasons at face value. Of course the team will not perform as well as expected if the senior players are not included.
Also the chairman of the Meath Football Review Committee, Kevin Cahill resigned from his position.

I wonder how those lads feel about being abandoned.
