Fair enough LR ;) Thought the rule was that if you played senior you couldn't play U20. Was sure that was why Clifford and Sean O'Shea never played U20/21 with Kerry as they went straight into the senior team. That's what i based it on so if it's not an actual rule then ;) brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 19/04/2021 12:55:41 2337844 Link 18 |
Think that was the rule in 2018 and then in 2019 they changed it so you couldn't play the under 20's if you were on the senior team and the senior team was still in the championship. All very messy stuff anyway but I am almost certain Costello and Hickey can play

Yeah there is no rule to stop them playing. In fairness to Andy there was probably no need for flynn to make this demand as from what i can see there was no issues last year with the 20s on the senior panel being made available for 20s championship. They all played v Wexford and were allowed play the Dublin game the day before the senior game v kerry but walsh was injured.

Yep 100%, not a demand so much as an assurance from Andy that he would continue this policy and it was given. Might not matter as currently unfortunately there's no plan for under 20's to happen this year

Yeah he is a good player as I remember him from Minors . Is there any players that are New to the Meath Scene ( not in Meath teams before ) does anyone know of ? Bear10 (Meath) - Posts: 463 - 20/05/2021 14:14:48 2343656 Link 0 |
Panel named. Only glaring omission that came to my mind is Dean Pluck. Anybody know the story with him? LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 24/05/2021 20:59:54 2345184 Link 2 |
Is Conor Moriarty from Curraha no longer U20? He was racking up great scores a few years ago underage for club and county. Thought he'd be on a county team at this stage. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 464 - 24/05/2021 21:50:16 2345207 Link 0 |
He finished being under 20 3 years ago, think he got a bad injury at some point

Unbelievable omission. Thought only reason he not on seniors was he was the u20 keeper. Lutch any word on why ??

Very Strong Panel with some excellent forward especially , 2 Very good keepers , A lot of new faces there also , who will be the midfielders from this selection ?

There's definitely a Cian McBride shaped hole on the panel. I'd say maybe Jack Flynn and Matt Costello. I think Conor Gray from the 2020 minors would have played but none of them were included because their champo is ongoing

I have never seen Conor Gray playing live but by all accounts seems to be a big prospect going forward. Is he of the same quality as McBride ?

I mean it's hard to say because he's only 17 but I don't think he is. He is close to the same height and is probably bigger and stronger than Cian was at that age. But he doesn't have near the speed or the jumping ability that Cian did. I've sort of being waiting for Conor Gray to take the minor games by the scruff of the neck like he did for Dunshauglin but he hasn't done it as of yet. I suppose he hasn't needed to yet either. While he is a very good prospect I wouldn't quite have him on the Nash, McBride level at that age. But that doesn't mean he couldn't get there eventually

Very Young Minor at 17 considering it is last year's side . Is he underage again this year ? Dunshaughlin look like they will have 2 large midfielders in the future ( Costello who must 6ft 4 or 5 and Gray 6ft 6ish) and will be a club definitely to watch out for Bear10 (Meath) - Posts: 463 - 25/05/2021 12:34:05 2345335 Link 0 |
No Gray was the full age minor in 2020. His midfield partner Sean Emmanuel is minor again in 2021

Sorry he could be 18 now, I was just thinking under 17 and the season not finished yet, COVID has my sport calendar all over the place

This is from April. A really terrible look for Meath football. A travesty for the group of players involved. And from the outside a horrendous look for senior management and for the county board for not coming down harder. The only possible mitigating factor is maybe Hickey and Costello really wanted to play senior and then this would rule them out of under 20's. But I've said it before on here, under 20 and 21's before it is the age group where the wheels come off for Meath teams. And absolutely everything should be done to stop this slide. And that includes possible short term pain for the seniors, which if it's that reliant on under 20's isn't going anywhere this season. This is as angry as I've been with a Meath football situation as I can remember
