Division 1 - Duleek/Bellewstown, Dunshaughlin, Gaeil Colmcille, Ratoath, Skryne, St. Colmcille's, St. Peter's Dunboyne, Summerhill
The top two sides in Division 1A and Division 1B progress to the semi-finals with top in 1A playing second in 1B and top in 1B playing second in 1A. The third-placed team in 1A plays the fourth-placed team in 1B in the Shield semi-final with the third-placed team in 1B playing the fourth in 1A.
Division 1A - Duleek/Bellewstown, Gaeil Colmcille, St. Peter's Dunboyne, Summerhill
Duleek/Bellewstown - A club which has been developing steadily in the juvenile ranks, Duleek-Bellewstown have the raw materials necessary to be serious players in the race for the Delaney Cup. In Dylan Collins and Ryan Lynch they have two players who have plenty of potential and how they fare will be key. And then there's Alan Bowden who many in the county will recall was a key member of the Gerry Reilly Tournament winning side with the Meath U-16's in 2019. Bowden has a great eye for a goal and if he can hit top form along with Collins and Lynch then the Arthur Duffy managed side have the capabilities of being in the mix when the semi-final stages roll around. Manager - Arthur Duffy. Selectors - Aidan Callaghan & Paul O'Boyle. Captain - Killian McGrane.
Gaeil Colmcille - Only a few years ago Gaeil Colmcille has no Minor side but the production lines are back in action in Kells and having won the U-16 Division 2 League last year, they are back at the top table for this year's Minor Football Championship. No doubt inspired by the ultra-consistent run their Senior side have enjoyed since they won the Intermediate Football Championship back in 2013, this next generation have been steadily developing and have the looks of a group of players who will fare well in this competition. They host Duleek-Bellewstown in Round 1 and with reports from recent challenge games encouraging, Gaeil Colmcille will fancy their chances of getting off to the best possible start in Grangegodden. A place in the knockout stages would likely be regarded as a successful campaign as the team continue to improve.
Manager - Conn Cleary. Selectors - Seamus O'Reilly & Dave Finlay. Coach - Jimmy King. Captain - Fionn Smith.
St. Peter's Dunboyne - Back at the top table in Minor Football after being marked absent for the previous few years having gained promotion on the back of the impressive form in the Spring League before it got cut short. After contesting the Division 2 MFC Final last year, when they were unlucky to lose out to Dunshaughlin, St. Peter's Dunboyne will be looking to get their hands on the Delaney Cup for the first time since 2014 when Andy McEntee donned the Bainisteoir bib. This time around it's Meath Minor Hurling manager Sean Callanan who will be patrolling the sidelines and he will be looking to players like Jack Kinlock and Peter Connolly to lead the charge with Cathal Melia and Simon O'Keefe others to keep an eye on. They are likely to find the going tough but will be well prepared and if any team underestimates them, they will likely live to rue it.
Manager - Sean Callanan. Selectors - Damien Cunningham, Seamus McGovern & Dean McLoughlin. Captain - Aidan Flynn.
Summerhill - After coming up just short in the 2019 MFC Final, Summerhill will be looking to go one better in this year's competition and will be quietly fancied by many to do just that. The Adrian Byrne coached side have come out on the right side of the draw in terms of having two home games and they will look to put this to use by claiming wins against St. Peter's Dunboyne and Gaeil Colmcille. Achieve this and a place in the semi-finals would be as good as secured. In the two Eoghan's, Frayne and Grehan they possess two of the brightest young talents in the county, with Frayne in his second year on the Meath Minor panel and Grehan having lined out at full-back in last years decider at the tender age of fifteen. Another to watch out for is Ben Moran who lined out at cornerback last year and is a key member of the team.
Manager - Adrian Byrne. Selectors - Dave Gaffney, Willie Crowell & Tom McVann. Captain - Eoghan Frayne.
Division 1B - Dunshaughlin, Ratoath, Skryne, St. Colmcille's
Dunshaughlin - The Division 2 trophy wintered in Dunshaughlin in 2019 but will the Division 1 trophy be spending the winter of 2020 in the ever-expanding village in the south of the county? Dunshaughlin won the first of their three in a row SFC titles 20 years ago and it would be a great way for the next generation of club players to mark the anniversary were they to lift the Delaney Cup on October 4th Everywhere you look on their team there are players rich in talent and who could go on to pull on the senior jersey for many years. Fursey Blake, Conor Gray and John McDonagh are all players who have the ability to inspire the side to glory as evidenced by their U-16 Division 1 success last year as well as when they defeated St. Peter's Dunboyne to claim the Liam Tolan Cup in the MFC Division 2 Final on the October Bank Holiday Weekend.
Manager - Kieran O'Riordan. Selectors - Paul Nestor & Ultan Blake. Joint Captains - Jared Rushe & Aaron Murphy.
Ratoath - Much will depend for Ratoath on how they fare against St. Colmcilles in the opening round. If they come away from Piltown with a point or two in the bag they are likely to be there or thereabouts when the finalists become known towards the end of September. If they lose that game, then they will face a mountain to climb if a semi-final spot is to be secured. Having last won the Delaney Cup in 2017 when Ryan Kelly captained them to a six-point win in the decider against Na Fianna, hopes are high in the club that both their Seniors and Minors could be in action in Páirc Tailteann on county final day in October. A lack of talent won't be an issue for Ratoath who can call upon the likes of Cian Smith, Liam Kelly, Oisín Kelly and Tomás (Mossie) Corbett with each of these potential game winners on their day.
Skryne - Like St. Peter's Dunboyne, Skryne have been promoted to Division 1 on the back of the brilliant form in the League earlier this year and while they will have an average age slightly younger than many of the other sides in the top tier, they will not lack any talent. John Finnerty is the latest of the well-known family to be coming through the ranks of the Tara outfit and those who watched St. Patrick's Classical School on their march to the All-Ireland Junior 'A' Final, will have liked what they have seen from him. Finnerty will be ably assisted by the likes of James Mangan, Mark Swan and Luke O'Brien while the other teams will surely be looking to lock down Oisín Keogh who is another to be in his second year on the county Minor panel. Skryne last won the Minor Football Championship back in 1974 and few things would bring more joy around the parish than if they were to end that long wait this year.
Manager - Sean O'Regan. Selectors - James Reddy & Andy McConnell. Captain - Scott Armstrong.
St. Colmcille's - Perennially one of the main contenders for the Delaney Cup, St. Colmcilles enter this year's LMFM MFC as defending champions after their brilliant victory over Summerhill in the 2019 decider. The group of players have won almost every competition from U-12 coming through the age-grades but fell to defeat against Dunshaughlin in the U-16 Division 1 League Final in May of last year. Backboned by the likes of Adam Daly, Godfrey Ehichoya and Luke Hanan alongside Sean O'Donoghue who hopes to play in the final for the third consecutive year, there are talented players everywhere you look on the 'Cilles team. They have landed as tough a draw as they could realistically have gotten which in many ways is similar to the grouping they were handed in 2018 when they went all the way to the final before losing out to Donaghmore/Ashbourne. Their opening round encounter against Ratoath is set to be a brilliant game and a win her could light the touch paper for another memorable MFC campaign.
Manager - Gerry White. Selectors - John Weir, Jack Reynolds & Mark Whearty. Joint Captains - Caolan Nulty & Liam Stafford.
2019 Winner - St. Colmcille's. Playing For - Delaney Cup Predicted semi-finalists - Duleek/Bellewstown, Ratoath, St. Colmcille's & Summerhill. Predicted winners - Ratoath Predicted Shield Contestants - Dunshaughlin, Gaeil Colmcille, Skryne & St. Peter's Dunboyne.

Replying To Ratoath Royal: "Kilbride beating NOM is an incredible result." Kilbride almost beat Dunboyne last year but for a fluke of a last minute goal. They're after getting a big population influx in the last 15 years or so and now that's starting to show at underage where they are starting to be in division 2 consistently it seems. As for Navan their underage slump continues. They badly need a few good underage teams with their team ageing. I was surprised with Duleek getting such a big victory over Kells. Their next game against Summerhill will tell a lot. As somebody not that familiar with this age group I am finding it hard to figure out who should be good as normally the inter county panel would give you a gauge as to who the best players are but the inter county is obviously delayed this year. I think Summerhill and Colmcilles seem to be the strongest with maybe Dunshaughlin in there as well

Pretty much all of the development nearby has been on the Dublin side of the border which would likely be in the Tyrrelstown area. Kilbride itself hasn't seen anything close to the increase in population as the likes of Ratoath, Ashbourne and Dunboyne have seen over the last 20 years.

It may be in the Tyrrelstown area but I know a lot of guys my age that live in Tyrrelstown and out near Hollystown golf club but play for Kilbride. I know the influx isn't to the same extent as Ratoath, Ashbourne or Dunboyne but considering they were a tiny club operating at Junior B the influx of people has been a huge deal. And full credit in the work they done connecting with the new communities and getting them to play for Kilbride rather than go elsewhere/not play GAA

From the time the draws were made for Division 1 there was what were considered to be the top three form teams at this age in the one group (1B) leaving one not to make the semis as they were all pitted against each other. After the 1st round the team most at risk of not making it is Ratoath, but a home win in the next round against Dunshaughlin will put it back in Ratoath's favour and will leave Dunshaughlin fighting for their lives in the last round against St. Colmcilles who would be wanting at least a draw themselves to avoid finishing on 4 points. There is still a possibility that all three could finish on 4 points, but the crunch game is Ratoath V Dunshaughlin, if Ratoath lose, it's the shield, win and it will make an exciting last day in the group stages. The big game in Division 1A is the next one between Summerhill and Duleek/Bellewstown, if Summerhill beat Duleek (who hammered Kells) then they have to be considered as real contenders to win the whole thing. I still think the eventual winners will come out of Group 1B. Great to see Kilbride doing so well, the big Leitrim man Gareth gets so much out of a small pick/panel.

Minor Championship is 2 horse race . Dunshaughlin V St Colmcilles. St Colmcilles have been seriously good at this age group . Tyrone man Jude McNabb had those lads in 7 County Finals in a row and I think they may have won all 7 Div1 Titles, definitely won 6 in a row anyway as I recall. But interestingly he is now coaching Simonstown Gaels Seniors last year and this year as well and now I think his absence could well be the difference and so Dunshaughlin will fancy their chances to win the Minor .

St. Peter's Dunboyne v Gaeil Colmcille
Referee - Owen Ganly (Trim)
Venue - Dunboyne
St. Peter's Dunboyne may have lost out to Summerhill in their opening-round game but for a promoted team who many had believed would struggle, their performance was impressive, even in defeat. On another day had they got the rub of the green then Sean Callanan's charges may have come away with at least a point to their name and they will be looking to pick up a valuable home win here. By contrast, Gaeil Colmcille who had been fancied to get off to a winning start against Duleek/Bellewstown fell to a surprisingly heavy defeat.
Sean Thornton was in impressive form between the uprights for Gaeil Colmcille the last day as he pulled off some excellent saves and if they can get some more ball into their talented forward line then they could make hay. Alex Williams has an eye for a goal with his late runs from deep often causing problems for the opposition defence while full-forward Cian Murphy is more than capable of causing problems for the St. Peter's Dunboyne full-back.
The Dunboyne outfit will be looking to boost the spirits in the club after their disappointing loss to Gaeil Colmcille in the Fairyhouse Steel SFC on Sunday which seen them exit stage left and with this being their solitary home match before a tough encounter away to Duleek-Bellewstown in Round 3, a victory here is a must if aspirations of qualification to the semi-finals are to be maintained. That home advantage might just give them the boost they require.
Verdict - St. Peter's Dunboyne
Duleek/Bellewstown v Summerhill
Referee - Joe Synnott (Donaghmore/Ashbourne)
Venue - Duleek
Evan Gaffney with two and Henrique Magno were the goalscoring heroes the last day for Summerhill and no doubt they will be tightly watched by the Duleek/Bellewstown rear-guard who will not want to let them repeat the trick. If this deadly duo can hit form again then Summerhill have every chance of picking up a second victory but they come up against the Duleek/Bellewstown side who turned in probably the performance of Round 1 when blitzing Gaeil Colmcille in Grangegodden.
Having had twenty-five players togged out for that game, Duleek/Bellewstown have no shortage of players which augurs well for the future of the club and having been finalists with this team at the U-15 grade two years ago, they look like a group who have designs on going deep into the competition. If Duleek/Bellewstown's attack can again reach the heights they hit a fortnight ago, they will be hard stopped by Summerhill.

Ratoath v Dunshaughlin (19:00)
Referee - Padraig Coyle (Seneschalstown)
Venue - Ratoath
A local derby to whet the appetite sees Ratoath needing a win after coming up short in Piltown the last day coming up against a Dunshaughlin side who were in sensational form against Skryne. If Dunshaughlin hit those heights again it will be hard to see them defeated by anybody but Ratoath with their backs to the wall are sure to be a dangerous proposition.
Knowing that a defeat here will likely consign them to partaking in the Shield for the third year in succession, Ratoath will be fired up for this encounter and know that a win would leave them in with a brilliant chance of qualifying for the semi-finals with a home game to come against Skryne in Round 3.
County Minor panellist Ruairí Kinsella was in electric form for Dunshaughlin two weeks ago as he plundered 3-06, 2-05 of which came in the final quarter. With John McDonagh pulling the strings at centre forward and Kinsella on fire inside on the edge of the square, Dunshaughlin have no shortage of firepower and if they hit top form again then Kieran O'Riordan could see his team book their semi-final place.
Verdict - Dunshaughlin

Kilbride v Walterstown
Referee - Pat Clarke (Seneschalstown)
Venue - Kilbride
David slayed Goliath in Round 1 when Kilbride downed O'Mahony's by a point in Paddy O'Brien Park and they come into this encounter knowing that a win on home soil will leave them with one foot in the semi-finals. Walterstown on the other hand were mightily impressive in dismantling the Simonstown challenge two weeks ago in a most comprehensive manner as they had nineteen points to spare at the final whistle.
At the beginning of the competition we tipped Kilbride on these pages to make the semi-finals with Walterstown missing out. That huge win for Walterstown left that prediction looking wildly off course but a slip up in Kilbride and a win for O'Mahony's in Simonstown this evening would leave them needing a positive result in Round 3. How they marshal players like Zach McGovern and Josh Harford will be key and while Kilbride have some star quality sprinkled around their team, Walterstown are possibly a more evenly balanced outfit. Eoghan McCague whose father Aidan is a former club secretary will be a key player this evening for the away side and if he along with the likes of Adam Quinn and Troy Campbell O'Brien can hit top form then the points can go to Walterstown but the extra stardust around Kilbride suggests they won't.
Verdict - Kilbride
Simonstown Gaels v Navan O'Mahonys
Referee - Richard Morris (Blackhall Gaels)
Venue - Simonstown
It has been a difficult few days on the Proudstown Road as Simonstown hit the headlines with the news that an adult player in the club had tested positive for Covid-19. Their 48-hour cancellation of all activities elapsed last night, and their Minors will be the first team back in action. The north side blues are another club who are in need of a positive on field news story after they fell to defeat against Nobber in the Fairyhouse Steel SFC at the weekend.
A local derby against O'Mahony's is surely the best game to get as they look to recover from the reversal two weeks ago in Walterstown, but the continued absence of Luke Caffrey is a major blow as his scoring ability isn't easily replaced. Tadgh Hanrahan who impressed in last year's Championship will need to be at his best around midfield while Darragh Dooner at the back will have to be at the top of his game along with the likes of Jack Melia and Davy McKeever up front.
O'Mahony's have spent the last two weeks licking their wounds after that narrowest of defeats to Kilbride and would surely love nothing more than to knock Simonstown out of contention while getting themselves back into the qualification race. There is nothing like a friendly rivalry! Putting up a tally of 3-12 the last day shows that their forward line is impressive and if team selector Cormac McGuinness can impart a few pearls of wisdom on the art of defending then they are surely going to be tighter at the back and can return to winning ways and take hold of the bragging rights in the town.
Verdict - Navan O'Mahonys

Replying To bearindsquare: "St.

Replying To jackhackett: "Fair play bear. They're great previews. Keep up the good work." Some interesting results last night, Summerhill drawing with a more fancied Duleek/Bellewstown in Division 1 (will make the semi final pairings and who gets home venue worth watching). Unfortunately for Ratoath after last nights game in a very tough group they cant make the semi finals. Division 2 Kilbride going really well, 2 wins from 2 outings against much bigger clubs(O' Mahony's & Walterstown) and looks their easiest game to come.
