Heartbreak for Kells but credit to ratoath, back to back titles, sort out the few internal problems and they could win 5 in a row, Joey Wallace was immense thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1073 - 04/10/2020 17:15:07 2295610 Link 1 |
What a finish to what was a great game given the conditions there today, I honestly thought Ratoath were done but there is a great belief and determination in that group, admittedly they were aided by a few Kells errors in the last few minutes but you have to be able to capitalise and Ratoath did just that, winning back to back titles is not easy by any means and to achieve that feat is fantastic, a double next weekend would be even better, the dream continues...... one of the best club finals this year no reason why our county team can make major strides this year

Great game and considering the conditions it was superb. Kells had a real go at it and were so unfortunate at the death. Ratoath have developed into winners. A few years ago that game would have been lost. But they learned the hard way and today reaped the reward even though they left it very late indeed. Hopefully Kells will learn from this heartbreaking loss, club football can only improve from those do or die situations. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 04/10/2020 18:57:26 2295641 Link 2 |
Super game today. Kells contribute handsomely to great game but Kells will rue all the subs they brought and messing on line in additional time . Caused chaos on the field and Kells lost their composure with sub instead of picking up the ball and running down the clock pulled on it and drove it into the stands. That led to the sideline which led to the goal. Small margins and Credit Ratoath they stuck at it and Joey Wallace was brilliant. Ratoath won cause they just had the better standard of player, kells fast becoming the mayo of meath club football, all spoof and no proof. All solid players don't get me wrong but no county standard player, and that was the difference southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 938 - 04/10/2020 20:19:07 2295658 Link 21 |
Sincere commiserations to Kells. We would have had no complaints had they won. We were uncharacteristically sloppy once we went ahead. Did not see us managing that last minute goal. But we are a team that has some amount of bottle (which is ironic given that we were always accused of lacking it over the years). In 4 out of our 5 games this year, we've been behind at half time and we've won each of them. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 04/10/2020 20:26:54 2295664 Link 20 |

Kells have nobody to blame but themselves. People say they deserved the win and had the lead but the were only leading because of a dreadful error in the Ratoath defence. Triton (Meath) - Posts: 9 - 04/10/2020 21:58:21 2295689 Link 1 |

Watched the game live and watched it again. Thought Kells were hard done by initially but have to say I have some very different views 2nd time around. Firstly - 11 of Kells 14 Scores came from frees so not so sure about the "poor ref" witch-hunt in North Meath. More imperatively, a lot of free were soft and Mattimoe went to ground very easily... in fact frustratingly so! Ratoath dominated possession in the 2nd half. Kells ran out of steam. For those in any doubt - this was a fantastic game of football and even better 2nd time around. Arguable the two best teams in the County. Two Reilly's from Kells are worthy of a Meath jersey. Apparently Shane Duffy the Ratoath keeper now has 4 championship medals across 4 decades? Pretty impressive. GenderNeutral (Meath) - Posts: 115 - 05/10/2020 02:30:03 2295709 Link 0 |
Fair play to Kells for taking off all their players at the end, need to keep them fresh for the upcoming Feis Cup Meathgaa5 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 05/10/2020 08:02:41 2295714 Link 0 |

What is the story with the Wallaces, both carrying injuries or what? If not it seems strange Joey making his first start of the year in the county final and why's the brother only coming on at the end? Both either recent or current county men. Regards Kells frees, I personally thought both Ratoath corner backs fouled a lot and #2 in particular lucky to stay on the field. He dumped someone over the sideline on the stand side with a late hit in the second half which was definitely a black - not sure was he already on a yellow at that stage. Agree though that Kells haven't the referee to blame anyway and to be fair I don't think they are. Needlessly gave away a sideline and were undone by a hit and hope punt into the box ironically finished by the smallest man on the field; that after defending heroically for 70+ mins. Both focused on athletics this year and both were competing in the national finals in Santry at the end of August so only came back to football before the semi final. They were on the bench for the Summerhill game but weren't called upon. Brian Farrell obviously made the decision that Joey would have more of an impact on the game from the start, and he was proven right. Kells got a lot of frees but for some they only seemed to need to flop to the ground to get them. I think it was Oisin Reilly who swan dived over the ball near the terrace at one point. McGowan's black card in the first half was an absolute joke! Kells cannot blame the referee. I've seen elsewhere people crying that over the 7 minutes were played but that's ignoring the fact that there were (I think) 3 substitutions and an injury during the 7 minutes which would have resulted in extra time being added on. Still cannot believe we managed to pull it out of the bag. What a team. Fingers crossed for the double next weekend (if we're allowed to even play the game). You'd nearly feel bad for Kells..... nearly. Anmhi364 (Meath) - Posts: 65 - 05/10/2020 11:40:35 2295759 Link 0 |
The game was very similar to last years semi. Ratoath dominated the second half, (they won almost every kickout).. and it is testament to Kell's fight and spirit that they somehow managed to get three points up at the end. From there they lacked composure to see it over the line. I suppose you never know how you will react in that situation till you get there. No-one is blaming the ref. Enjoyable match and it was a good win for Ratoath, however from a neutrals prospective I though that the Ratoath's corner back line got away with a lot of fouling with no action taken. How did their keeper last the game considering that he got away with an obvious trip in first half with no action taken and the penalty was a very obvious black card. Though the Ref was over officious at times and did not apply the advantage when he should have. Making many changes with time up is a good way to lose a match--fair play to Ratoath. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 05/10/2020 12:02:50 2295766 Link 15 |
I don't think that's right re scores from frees? According to match report, 6 points came from play/8 from dead balls?
