Again another guy in his mid 30's who was involved on the panel in 2007 and nothing since. Crikey at the rate people are going I reckon I've a chance of being called up myself. I'm 39 haven't played football in years, but I'm from North Meath and half a "hard edge" to me so I must have potential.... Come on people be realistic. Beano Hanlon is 34 or 35. Yes a great club footballer and solid free take but to suggest he should be in the Meath team is ridiculous. Yes we're short a free taker right now (surely Thomas O'Reilly could do a job there) but once the three established free takers of Lenihan, Newman and Walsh are available there's no place for a beano hanlon in the squad. Same goes for Sheppard, who's place should he take? Where should he be played? A great club player yes, but hasn't been involved under O'Brien, Banty, O'Dowd or McEntee. Were all 4 of those managers wrong, i don't think so. A lot of people with a north meath bias is killing proper discussion on here. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 06/02/2020 10:49:53 2265622 Link 10 |
Yeah - pretty sure Stephen was retired or semi retired from Tones last year!!

So come on then who are all these kells players that should be involved and who should they replace. IMHO you're full of hot air and hyperbole. You're looking for a reaction and gotten once but when the shoes on the other foot you've no answer. You said the Reilly's are both up to it. Who should they replace? What players on Sunday or on a fully health team would they get there games ahead of. No one. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 06/02/2020 11:14:18 2265630 Link 9 |
The 2 Wallace's Brían Conlon, Jones, Thomas o Reilly, Ben Brennan, Costello you Cleary don't watch enough football

I was just wondering about your thoughts on drafting some of the Meath Chronicle team of the week players into the current county set up. Some players have featured a few times in these teams. These are in-form players. Some of the forwards in this team are scoring, we lack a scoring forward for meath. Give them a chance I reckon. We could catch the Dubs out if we play a relatively unknown player from one of the so-called smaller clubs. Discuss LoyalRoyal66 (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 13/02/2020 11:31:30 2267483 Link 0 |
You are clearly on a wind up because those teams that have been 'picked' in the Chronicle wouldn't beat Ratoath or Dunboyne's Senior teams, never mind being remotely good enough for inter county action. Those teams in the chronicle are done with a clear agenda behind them from the chronicle and a certain one or two reporters, with the agenda being North Meath players being ignored etc. Anyone from North Meath that is good enough (being fit enough also which is a major problem with north meath teams with Kells being the one exception) is on the squad or was at least offered the opportunity.

You're talking pure BS. But i'll humour you. Who are these players on the chronicle team of the week that Andy should be drafting in??? I mean if this person in the Chronicle is such an Oracle why aren't they managing the county team. Are you honestly suggesting McEntee just picks a random guy cos he can score a few points in a club game. Come on be realistic. If they were good enough they'd already be involved with the squad. Bar goalkeeper Andy has the best players in the county involved in the panel. Our best scoring forwards are Newman, Lenihan and Walsh (all injured or returning from injury) There's no chance we'll catch the Dubs even with a full deck of players, so the thought that a random player from a small club is going to "surprise" them is off the wall. This is one of the best teams ever if a random club player from Meath is going to beat them then theirs something seriously wrong.. Maybe you should try and resurrect Roy of the Rovers magazine brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 13/02/2020 11:49:41 2267490 Link 9 |
Well this didn't age well. Conlon, Jones and O'reilly were among our better players versus Mayo. I'll give you the others but I don't think any of them should be starting in a championship match anyways. But I suppose all these Kells lads you've such a gra for would've delivered us a victory would they. I mean Mayo need not have turned up if those Kells boys were involved. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 13/02/2020 12:01:22 2267491 Link 8 |
I think there's an opportunity for us to throw a spanner in the works and give a guy from a smaller club a chance to light up croke Park. Like we aren't scoring. Draft in players that are in form. These forwards are scoring. Confidence is crucial. LoyalRoyal66 (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 13/02/2020 12:17:48 2267495 Link 0 |
LoyalRoyal66, I admire your thinking but to compare Jamie Vardy to lads playing club football in Meath is plain and simply bizarre.

So you're clearly on the wind up. No point discussing any further brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 13/02/2020 12:34:42 2267499 Link 8 |
It's the exact same concept, how can it be any different. Player playing in lower league given a chance and takes it with two hands. Dream big. Every player wants to wear the green and gold.

So come on then, who's a jamie Vardy that can be plucked from the depths of the sixth level of Meath football then?? Or are you just full of hot air and clueless? Many fans would love to pull on the green and gold (myself included) but that doesn't mean they or I'm good enough to do so. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 13/02/2020 15:37:36 2267534 Link 6 |
Did the 2 Wallace's not lead Kells on a merry dance around Pairc tailteann only a few months ago, made alot of Kells lads look very average, and tbh the Wallace's are borderline inter county ...what does that say about Kells. Not 1 player from kells in that semi final looked up to senior football let alone intercounty. Your probably seeing them rack up big scores in a feis cup game or something, and like many other north meath names that have been touted on here, when the standard goes up a notch, the Kells boys are found wanting. Bar a few goalkeepers i dont see any body obvious in the county that will greatly improve but are being ignored

That's true in fairness. Tormey and co didn't lay a glove on them.

You have to laugh at these guys who come in all gung ho and when its put to them they slide back into their hobbits and don't have an answer. Then another new poster pops up a week later with the same hyperbole and goes hiding again when its put to them. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 14/02/2020 10:04:23 2267619 Link 7 |
If you're referring to me, I think there are many players that deserve a chance. Players on form need to be given a chance. The meath chronicle is doing a good scouting job here. We need a few big men on the senior side. We need to use the inside mark better. If we could draft in a big target man and tell him to stand within 5 yards of the goals we could get a bit of luck off it. We've seen the so called greatest team of all time Dublin struggling over the years when teams let the ball in. Why can't we test them out in a few weeks in the league. Spring a surprise. A lot of these players on the chronicle team of the week are big men, who are strong physically. If we land them in on top of the new Dublin goalkeeper and launch balls in relentlessly all night, we'll get the rub of the green. These players are on form. We aren't scoring LoyalRoyal66 (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 14/02/2020 11:53:40 2267643 Link 1 |
two quick points 1. The team of the week is nominated by clubs not the chronicle who don't attend all games 2. Majority of that team are small players But fair play to you Thejoeshow (Meath) - Posts: 687 - 14/02/2020 12:53:57 2267658 Link 1 |
I'm not so sure about your facts!! Is there any difference between an average big player and an average small one? Many of the best players in some of the best teams were not big players.

So basically you haven't an unoriginal clue yourself which is my assertion. You can talk a lot of hyperbole but you've no answers, you can't name a single player who should be involved that isn't involved already or been given a chance, assessed by the current managerial team and been deemed not good enough for inter county football. Thinking some lad chosen in a weekly paper is suddenly going to catapult us to a "surprise" against the Dubs, gimme a break. 1) they wouldn't have the fitness required to play at inter county 2) they wouldn't have the strength and conditioning to survive 3) they wouldn't know the systems and how the team is structured Players on form have been given a chance, look at Shane Walsh being drafted in late last year after he'd finished his leaving and was lighting it up in the club championships But ultimately yea lets stick a lump of a lad on the edge of the square and hope for the best . I'm 6' 4" myself , 16 stone, a good lump of a lad.... should i give Andy a shout and see if i can a job for him. I'd say the dubs would destroy their pants at the sight of me. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 14/02/2020 17:04:52 2267718 Link 9 |
