Goalkeeper Mark Sheedy provided the heroics as Clare triumphed over Tipperary to the Munster U20 hurling championship title at the TUS Gaelic Grounds last night.

The Banner lads’ 4-3 win in the penalty shootout in Limerick saw Sheedy producing three saves and scoring a goal as the Banner lads got their hands on the JJ Kenneally Perpetual Memorial Cup.

In what was a cracking contest, the scoreline read 2-18 apiece at the end of normal time, with Cormac Fitzpatrick’s late free forcing the added periods after Fred Hegarty’s penalty and then a point from the same player looked like being enough for Clare.

Hegarty’s free saw the Banner edge a 2-23 to 2-22 lead at the end of the first-half of extra time and the same player would double his side advantage early on in the restart.

Points from David Costigan and Eoghan Doughan saved a penalty shootout for the holders and, in the end, it was Sheedy that came up trumps for Clare with this incredible save (watch below) securing his county a fifth ever provincial success in the grade.
