Seamus Flanagan was as surprised as anyone to hear the Limerick hurlers had a backroom team of 53.

Declan Hannon made the revelation during his acceptable speech following last Sunday’s Munster SHC final victory over Clare, but it was later clarified by GAA president Jarlath Burns that the Limerick captain was referring to the set-up as a whole, including the 37 players on the panel.

"I don't know where he pulled that number from, 53 on the backroom team. I'd never heard the likes of it,” Flanagan – who missed the final with a hamstring injury – told reporters at this week’s All-Ireland SHC launch.

“I'm assuming he put players in as well. When he said it, I was chatting to Cian (Lynch) at the time. He must know more than I do! They must all be working from home!"

The towering full forward provided a positive update on the injury he sustained against Waterford, adding: “I'm back on the pitch now this week. Please God, back hurling soon. Should be good to go in the next week or two.”
