Christopher McDonnell has been appointed as Tyrone’s new senior hurling manager.

The Belfast native was a member of Stephen McGarry’s backroom team for the past few seasons and now takes the hotseat following McGarry’s decision to step down after three years at the helm.

The Red Hands played in Division 2A of the National League under McGarry and contested this year’s Nickey Rackard Cup final where they were defeated by New York.

McDonnell, who managed Antrim club Rossa last season, is set for a three-year term subject to ratification by the County Committee.

A statement from Tyrone county board read: “Tyrone GAA are delighted to announce the appointment of Christopher McDonnell as the new Tyrone Senior Hurling Manager. Christopher has been appointed to a three-year term, subject to ratification by the County Committee at its meeting on Tuesday evening.

“Tyrone GAA would like to congratulate Christopher on his appointment and wish him every success as he begins this important role.

“We look forward to working with him and his management team as they prepare for the season ahead and continue the development of hurling across the county.”
