Offaly manager Roger Ryan has hailed his side's 'Offalyness' after they scuppered Louth's treble ambitions with a stunning comeback victory in last night's Leinster MFC final at Newbridge.

Hammered by the same opponents in the round-robin series, the Faithful turned the tables with a 2-20 to 3-14 win to end their 36-year wait for Leinster minor football honours. Trailing by four points going into injury-time, they landed three two-pointers, including two from frees by goalkeeper Jack Ryan, to spark wild celebrations and set up an All-Ireland quarter-final meeting with Mayo.

Amazingly, Offaly have now won five Leinster titles in five years - one in U20 football, two in U20 hurling, one in minor hurling and one in minor football.

"I wrote a word - Offalyness - on a piece of paper the day we met as a management team on September 1," the Shannonbridge man revealed to TG4.

"The boys looked at me and they knew what it meant. That's what we wanted to instill in these young men."
