Dillon Walsh proved the hero for Sligo yesterday evening as they edged Galway by 2-9 to 2-8 at Markievicz Park for their first win in this year’s Connacht U20 football championship.
The holders were up by 1-5 to 1-4 at half-time, with Ronan Niland having bagged their goal in the 16th minute, but Galway would move ahead nine minutes into the second-half thanks to Sean O’Connor’s goal.
Dara Mostyn netted for the home side six minutes later and the teams would be honours even heading into injury-time when Walsh grabbed the winner for the Yeats lads.
It proved to be one-way traffic in Castlebar as Mayo chalked up their third win of the competition at Leitrim’s expense.
It finished 5-16 to 0-8 at Hastings MacHale Park, where Oisin Cronin, Colm McHale, Darragh Beirne (2) and Tom Lydon bagged the goals for the hosts in a comfortable victory.
