Score controversy could delay Tyrone SFC

The Tyrone SFC is facing possible delay after Galbally lodged an appeal over a disallowed point in their Round 1 defeat to Trillick on Saturday.

Trillick came from seven points down in Carrickmore to win by a point, 0-19 to 3-9, and knock Galbally out of the O’Neill Cup race. But the Pearses are adamant that Ronan Nugent’s 48th minute point shouldn’t have been ruled out after a linesman brought referee Michael Conroy’s attention to a foul in the build-up.

Galbally’s Cormaic Donaghy was booked for the incident and the score was disallowed with a free being awarded to Trillick instead. But Galbally claim that the referee noted the point before the booking and that it should have stood. If it had, it they would have regained their seven-point advantage, 3-8 to 0-10.

In a statement released after the game, Galbally said: “Out of courtesy ahead of the draw for the quarter-finals of the Tyrone Senior Championship following this evening’s game in O’Neill’s Healy Park, the County Chairperson and the Secretary of the CCC (Competitions Control Committee) have been informed that Galbally Pearses will be lodging an objection to the outcome of their first round fixture against Trillick in Páirc Colmcille, An Charring Mhór on Saturday afternoon.”
