Concerns have been raised about the safety of spectators on Hill 16 amid reports of overcrowding on the iconic terrace at last Sunday’s sold-out All-Ireland SFC semi-final between Kerry and Dublin.

Dublin fan page 'You Boys In Blue', which has 44,000 followers on Facebook, claimed ‘The Hill’ was unsafe and has called for the removal of the Perspex screen at the bottom on the terrace as many fans refuse to stand behind it as they ‘can’t see properly through it’. The page was also critical of stewarding at the game.

“Croke Park needs to get a grip on the overcrowding on Hill 16. Every single year it gets worse, but yesterday was by far the worst I’ve ever seen,” the post read.

“The stairs behind where I was standing were completely jammed. There wasn’t an inch of space, and people shouldn’t be standing on the stairs in the first place. The steps leading up to the terrace were also packed solid, leaving people unable to see the match. It got so bad that fans were standing on the handrails just to get a view. How is that acceptable?

“Croke Park seriously needs to rethink how it’s treating supporters. This isn’t just about comfort anymore—it’s a genuine safety issue. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt if nothing changes, and I sincerely hope I’m wrong.

“Imagine someone having a medical emergency in the middle of that crowd yesterday. There is no way emergency personnel would have been able to reach them quickly. None.”
