Shane Kingston struck for 2-8 as Cork cruised to an emphatic 6-22 to 0-14 victory over UCC in Mardyke last night to claim the Canon O’Brien Cup.
Kingston’s first goal after six minutes saw the Rebels into a 1-2 to 0-2 lead and they’d stretch it with points from Alan Walsh, Kingston and Conor Cahalane to lead by 1-11 to 0-5 at the half.
The Douglas sharpshooter grabbed his second goal two minutes into the restart from the penalty spot and, while Fionn Coleman and Ben Cunningham got points back for UCC, Pat Ryan’s substitutes would impress off the bench in the time that remained to close out the victory.
Robbie Cotter landed 2-1 and Declan Dalton and Brian Hayes each raised green flags as the Leesiders started off 2025 with some early silverware, with team captain Robert Downey lifting the Canon O’Brien Cup as he did in UCC’s colours this time last year.
