Tipperary star John McGrath says he “was disgusted” to hear the news that team mate Ronan Maher had suffered a broken ankle in a club game last weekend.

Last year’s All-Ireland SHC winning captain suffered the injury while playing for Thurles Sarsfields in a challenge match against De La Salle from Waterford on Saturday.

Maher, who previously broke his leg during the 2022 campaign, is understood to have already had surgery on his ankle and, speaking to GAA.ie, McGrath said he hopes that the Premier skipper has a straightforward recovery.

"It was very disappointing for him, I was disgusted," said the Loughmore-Castleiney clubman.

"There is no way of sugar coating it for him, he knows what's ahead of him for the next couple of weeks and months. I just hope he gets it right and there is no issues with it. He's a huge loss for Sarsfields in the club championship.

"Particularly after having an operation at the end of last year, it's been a hard year for him on a lot of fronts. So, hopefully it goes straightforward enough for him on his recovery."
